    Good afternoon!

First off, kudos for this absolutely fantastic aircraft. I use 2024 SU3 and while I am very aware this is a beta, I am facing two issues unique to the Starship in this version:

    1. I encounter very significant turbulence on takeoff and especially on final, which require massive control deflection. It's as if there was an extremely severe downdraft almost throwing me on the ground, requiring 3-5 almost full yoke pulls. It's obviously way too much - is there an incompatibility with MSFS2024's "full" turbulence in assists?

    2. The tail numbers do not show, at least for default liveries. Whatever combination of tail number or ATC ID I input results in no tail number displayed in sim.

    3. While using time compression, engines tend to go way over ITT and fail. I rarely use it but wondered if there was a known incompatibility.

Thank you, and again fantastic work.

#1 is related to MSFS "Realistic" turbulence being anything but. Most people set it to low or medium, instead.

#2 is that tail numbers in the 2024 version are disabled until Asobo fixes the system. It is apparently broken in 2024, so when they fix it they will be reenabled on the Starship.

I used 2x time compression on my last two flights and didn't encounter any ITT problems. Of course it has to be monitored throughout the flight as ITT may change with changing environmental conditions.

Tail numbers are broken on all planes that use dynamic registrations. I think Black Square should entirely disable dynamic registrations because most people like using real world liveries I think.

@slipperfruit said in MSFS 2024 (SU3) - heavy turbulence on takeoff/final, no tail numbers:

I'd like to see them make a return when able. The registry placard on the dash updates in MSFS24 still, which is nice for a quick reference.

Flying real world liveries and registrations are nice and all, but when people on VATSIM keep beating me to N786BL and N45DL, I only have so many choices before I need to get creative.

@slipperfruit Could you help me understand what does it mean it is broken? I heard this from other 3rd party developers too that the tail numbers are not working. However, in SU3 most of the default aircraft have working custom tailnumbers. Also some MSFS2020 planes used in MSFS2024 have them working (for example the FlightFX P-180).

@Faerblaed I created an "ultra-custom" registration number system that myself and livery designers can use to fine-tune the position, color, font, rotation, skewing, outlines, shadows, etc. for dynamic registrations. Unfortunately, some oversight on Asobo's behalf has them render as flickering black rectangles sometimes, depending on whether you looked at the aircraft configuration menu first.... I have brought this to their attention, but no word on a fix yet.

@Black-Square I think your ultra-custom reg system is genuinely very impressive, it's a real shame MSFS 2024 broke it. Would you consider shipping a couple of static reg liveries in a future update, for those of us who just want to fly with the real-world reg? I know dynamic reg should cover all bases, but the reality is it's been broken since MSFS 2024 released, and I fear it's not a priority for Asobo, which is a real shame.

I do have a workaround to completely eradicate the dynamic reg from a custom livery (tinkering with panel.cfg isn't enough), allowing for the reg to be baked into the textures instead. I used this on my recent Duke livery, and am pondering doing it for some Starship liveries if there is any demand.

Oh, turns out neither of my workarounds will work. As far as I can tell livery artists are completely unable to make a livery with ANY form of registration at the moment, which is a shame.

                      1. We can't paint the livery in the texture because STARSHIP_EXTERIOR3_ALBD.PNG is mirrored. While this is good for texture efficiency, it is limiting for livery artists.
                      2. We can't add a model attachment with the static tail reg on a mesh, because the model needs to animate with the engine nacelles when the wing flexes. I don't think this is possible to do by adding model attachments to the Starship model, although someone may (hopefully!) prove me wrong.
                      3. We can't use the dynamic reg, because it simply doesn't work in MSFS 2024.

It's a bit disappointing, we can't really do any paints for the Starship - although I still absolutely love flying it!

@Flak Yeah it's annoying for something that compared to the other broken stuff in 2024 seems fairly trivial..Ruins screenshots of what is otherwise a beautiful model

On point 3 though you can with some patience get BlackSquare's custom tail numbers working by following the workaround others have suggested of entering the customisation screen a couple of times (after renabling Nick's original code and disabling the current placeholder) Although I had to regress to SU2 as the latest beta build stopped that workaround working for me at least...So it will probably break totally soon 😁🙄
