Discord for Starship pilots?
-
Is there a Blacksquare discord or perhaps an unofficial Starship discord we could all congregate/discuss the finer points of canard flying? I've found myself messaging other Starship pilots on VATSIM and making a niche friend group and sharing tips/tricks we've slowly discovered. It would be great to make a public gathering for others to join.

I know the youtube A320 Simulations channel has a Discord I am on and that content creator (and A320 pilot) has the Starship and is doing stuff with it. We've been chatting about it a bunch. Their youtube videos have links to their discord: https://www.youtube.com/@A320_Simulations

Just for what it's worth, yes, I created a Starship discord called "Starship Society." I tried to post here asking @Black-Square if Nick would be okay with me sharing it with everyone, and the post was almost IMMEDIATELY deleted by a moderator. So that pretty much killed my motivation to try and create a community around the airplane, as much as I really want to do it.
This airplane is no doubt going to have a loyal and enthusiast based following, and I thought having a common Discord for us all to be in together would be great.

@SinkRate From what I can see, the post you mention was your first post on the forum, so it would have gone into the post queue for moderation - we do that to prevent spam bots clogging up the forum with random junk. Your post may have been deemed as promoting another service which is against the forum rules or very similar to some of the spam posts we see, and hence rejected.
We provide a community forum so that you don't have to use Discord to discuss the product with other users, it allows those that don't want to use Discord, for whatever reason, to participate.

@ch0llis Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain it and clarify.
I don't really view inviting fellow enthusiasts to a Discord server as 'promoting another service' just given that there's really nothing to be gained by doing it. I "have no dog in the hunt," as they say. It certainly could never take the place of the forum in terms of being the appropriate avenue for product support.
I certainly understand the purpose and presence of this forum, but it brings with it certain limitations. Can't share media or photos, no DM's, etc. Not to mention that you obviously can't communicate on voice in a forum
Given that I'm not the only person who's suggested it now, I'm still happy to share the Starship Society discord with everyone, but only with Nick's blessing. With the number one server rule being that anything related to product support has to come to the forums.
What say you Nick?

Sorry about that little kerfuffle. Thanks for the explanation, ch0llis. You absolutely have my blessing, and I hope you have a wonderful time talking about Starship!
One of the reasons I have stayed away from Discord myself is that it hurts me when I see misconceptions and bad advice ruining someone's experience. Please, please, if there is something you suspect is not working correctly in Starship, an unlikely limitation, or even just claims or questions without substantial evidence, please contact me directly (Just Flight can get you in touch with me, if you are going to be the moderator), or post on this forum so I can look into it. Thank you!

@Black-Square Thanks Nick! I give you my word, it'll get done right and the community guidelines will be designed to keep the server's purpose in the world in the right context.
If JustFlight can put us in touch, I'd be happy to spend half an hour or so with you previewing it before I open the doors to the community, and would be delighted to hear and feedback or input you have for it! Won't be for a little while, have a little ways to go before it's ready for prime time.

That sounds excellent. Please make a ticket with Just Flight Support saying that I told you to get in touch with me. They should forward that to me by Monday. This is exactly the kind of relationship I've been looking for with a Discord Moderator. I stay away from most social media, because I have a hard enough time already answering questions here and also developing new aircraft! Having someone in the aviation industry and a fellow pilot is just about the perfect combination. Looking forward to it!

@SinkRate said in Discord for Starship pilots?:
It certainly could never take the place of the forum in terms of being the appropriate avenue for product support.
Just Flight don't offer product support on the forum, we have a ticketing system for that as it's better suited. The purpose of the forum is to foster community amongst customers of the products we develop, publish and retail - so it serves a similar purpose to Discord even if there's no personal gain.

Image uploading will return, hopefully very soon, it's currently disabled due to our storage provider plugin not being compatible with the latest forum software.
DMs/Chat has been disabled temporarily while we work out the implications of new legislation in the UK. We hope to restore that functionality as soon as we can.I'll let you two deal with further Discord discussion
