Impossible to repair piston duke starter in some circumstances
-
For the first time using the wonderful piston Duke I had problems starting the engines. I overused the starter on the right engine and eventually it failed to engage. The EFB showed it red, but repairing the starter only removed the overheat condition. The starter still would not engage. Reparing the engine didn't help either (this remained at 99%). The manual talks about excessive starter use permanently disconnecting it from the electrical supply, which seems to have happened. There was no way to reset it.
That's fine, and it taught me a lesson, but this is a sim so there should be a way to reset this permanent condition without having to reload (which meant I had to reconstruct weather scenario I needed).
Is there a way to reset this failure in the sim which I have missed? If not, can you please make repairing the starter repair this condition too?

I think this same situation has caught me off guard once too. Repairing the starter should work to restore power, but in some circumstances, it may not reset the circuit breaker for the starter motors, which is located on the vertical breaker panel on the right of the cockpit.
It's a very long story why this happens, and why it can only happen with the right engine. If that was the issue, I apologize that this strange programming corner-case caught you too. Trust me, I would have fixed it now if I could think of a convenient way to do it. I should revisit it and see if I have any new ideas.
@Buzz I'm not sure what you mean here about the MSFS 2020 engine model. Do you mean the simulator's native engine "failure"? I just want to make sure it isn't something I should know about and look into.

Yes, my comment was referring to the native 2020 engine failures. I have had a few instances where a Black Square aircraft engine would not turn over and restarting the session resolved it. I assumed it had something to do with the native engine failures in the sim.

Thanks for explaining the problem. So I can reset the CB if this happens? This is a brilliantly deep simulation.
One other thing, cranking in high ambient temp conditions (~ 30 deg C) can cause the battery to overheat. Recharging it or repairing the engine doesn't cool it down and starter torque is dismal in this condition. What can I do in that situation?

Looking at the code, it appears that recharging the battery should also reset its temperature. I will check it next time I have the simulator open. Oh, were you recharging the battery from the tablet or the weather radar? I discovered that the weather radar didn't reset the temperature, but fixed it recently for the next update.
