MSFS2024 compatibility?
-
Love the Duke, but after the 2024 release I haven't had it out of the hangar quite as much. After Asobo fixed their RPN issue a while back, the plane/systems themselves seems to be working well in the 2024 flights I have done. Someone seems to have dropped a powerful flashlight on the floor (which even shines through to the outside a bit), but otherwise it looks fantastic with the updated lighting.
Unfortunately the save/state functionality doesn't seem to work over on 2024 so it is like a new plane every flight (including having to choose avionics in the tablet).Still - to get the occasional "fix" of flying the Duke, it is pretty useable in 2024 already.
Really looking forwards to when the full update is released. -
I'd gladly take the next update for the Duke in 2020, even if I am in the minority here. I suspect it may have been delayed due to 2024's release, which is understandable. There are a few fixes and improvements which are noticeably missing in 1.1 but due to release, such as the headphone simulation clickspot and sound of rain on the windscreen (if I remember correctly).
I mainly fly the Duke & Comanche so I'm not doing much with 2024 until everything is officially updated and 2024's initial issues are ironed out, especially in VR (looks like a long wait for SU2 though). My flying time is limited enough without having to contend with new problems and annoyances which I don't have in 2020. I want to switch to 2024, but I'm happy enough with 2020 so I can wait :)

Just fired it up in the SU1 beta in 2024 and looks like state saving is working as intended now (perhaps related to the sim now properly honouring tail numbers?). The weird light at the floor from my last flight is also gone.
So from my quick test it seemed to be working just as well as in 2020 with all the nice improvements from 2024 like faster loading, a built in efb, improved lighting and weather etc.
Would of course be cool at some point to have the 2024 walkaround feature integrated with the chocks/covers from the tablet.

Hi Folks,
I am new to this forum so please excuse if I am asking anything too stupid here.Is it in the meanwhile possible to install the BS Dukes into 2024?
I have not kept my old 2020 community folder and need to reinstall all payware. Some payware won’t let me do the install at all without 2020 on the disk.
Thank you for your support!

I too find myself wondering this. I didn't get around to buying these Dukes in 2020 but really want them in 2024. From what I have been able to read it's possible to get them running in 2024 but only if you have it installed in 2020 as the installer doesn't give the 2024 option. However, there are some issues with it as it's not really properly compatible yet.
This makes me wonder how long it will be until I can buy these planes.

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing major stutters in VR (Pimax Crystal original - latest firmware) when using the Dukes or TBM850 in MSFS2024?
It's as if some process is grabbing a bunch of CPU or GPU cycles every 45sec to 1 min. This is extremely consistent and repeatable and I have only seen it in these two Black Square products. Unfortunately, they are also my favorite planes in the sim! Please let me know if anyone who uses VR has experienced this issue. Maybe @Black-Square is aware? If so please let me know. Thanks!

So, I thought I would give this a try in 2024 (non beta) and it's not working well for me at all. There seems to be a regular stutter which coincides with the graphics card utilisation dropping to 0% before going back up to where it should be. I was watching a YouTuber try it and he was getting the same stutter although he didn't mention the graphics card utilisation. I would not be at all surprised if it was the same though.
This stutter seems to happen exactly every 50-55 seconds like clockwork and only happens with this plane. It makes it unusable.
I know that this is not officially compatible with 2024 yet and I of course expect such issues until it is but I mention it because I hope it can be looked into before a patch is issued. I'd hate for such an issue to make it into an offical release.
I have also noticed some performance issues related to sound changes such as throttling back etc. Again, unique to this aircraft. So far, my time playing around with this in 2024 tells me that despite the claims that it does work well, it really doesn't.

Thanks for sharing your report. Here is what I wrote elsewhere on this forum about the potential cause of stutters within the last 48 hours:
"I have been looking into these stutters recently, as I have seen them reported with all of my complex aircraft, and several other complex 3rd party aircraft in MSFS 2024. This surprised me, as I take a substantial effort in development to make my aircraft frame rate friendly. I suffered for too many years with a lower-end PC not allowing me to enjoy the aircraft I wanted to fly for my users to face the same dilemma, so performance has always been a top priority of mine.
Unfortunately, to the best I can tell, this is a MSFS 2024 problem with the CoherentGT system used to render avionics and my tablet displays. Asobo has said that they are working on a solution in our developer forums, and there may have been some improvement in SU1 Beta already, but other developers are reporting that there is still a significant loss of performance and stuttering for Coherent-based avionics. I will keep you updated if I learn more, or if there is anything I can do to mitigate the problem on my end. Hopefully they will correct this problem so that we can have the same performance that we did in MSFS 2020."
It's very unfortunate that we are experiencing these steps backwards with the new simulator, but it's also very difficult for us developers to predict what is worth pursuing on your own, and what might "fix itself" with the next sim update. Unfortunately for performance issues, unless there is one single function call that causes the issue, only a drastic change of core software architecture could remediate the issue if the problem really does lie within changes to the CoherentGT system. Like I said, I will keep you all updated as I learn more. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the input on the issue. I can see your frustrations just as well as I can see mine. I have played around some more with it and it's not always exactly every 50-55 seconds. It seems to change every flight. The flight I did afterwards was far worse. Was doing it at 10 seconds, 20 seconds...it was all over the place. When it occurs the sim turns into a 1 FPS slide show for 3-4 seconds as the graphics card drops to 0% utilisation. Totally unflyable. I've had to give up on this plane in 2024. The thought had occured to me to try the beta release of 2024 to see if it improves but I may as well just wait for the SU1 update which I heard may be along in a week or two.
In the meantime I have gone back to 2020 in order to fly this one and just hope that ASOBO and yourselves can get this one worked out ASAP. This is far too good a plane to be missing from 2024 for long. Honestly, the Dukes and the A2A Comanche are the only GA planes I fly.
P.S. when are we getting headphone simulation in this plane? The thing is just too noisy without it!

@Jazz Wow, this is a peculiar issue I haven't experienced (yet) on base or beta 2024, and I was just involved in a 2024 group flight today with a streamer and 5-6 other people all flying various Duke variants - the streamer definitely didn't experience this, and nobody else mentioned it either. Just goes to show how different bugs pop up on different systems and configurations!
I assume you took the normal step of trying it without other addons in your Community folder? For troubleshooting in 2024, I also take the step of disabling any Marketplace addons I've enabled from 2020, especially if they're not creator approved (or whatever the verbiage is). I have to admit that so far I haven't found anything in 2024 that seemed to be causing conflicts, but it's always a possibility.
At any rate, sorry you experience this, and hopefully Asobo gets a fix in soon for the affected system.
-
@Black-Square Thanks for your response to our report. I really hope that Asobo takes this issue seriously and provides a fix for developers. It would be a shame if we could not enjoy your awesome aircraft in the new sim. Thanks again for some incredible products!!1

@RPGamerous I'm curious, what type of avionics are you using with Duke or TBM 850? I'm wondering if the choice of Garmin instrument makes a difference. I use the PMS GTN750 and I'm wondering if using, say, the TDS GTN750 or just the GNS530 etc. I think I'll give this a test tonight. Thanks!
-
Funny you say that. I have spent the entire day testing. Took everything out of the Community folder and began adding things back. I don't want to point the accusatory finger quite yet as I still need to test much more but things seemed to be going well until I added back 2 addons and one of them was the PMS GTN. The reason I started this process is because I had began to suspect the PMS GTN. I have been seeing some annoying crashes with it in 2024. I will test some more when I have the chance but I'm beginning to think it isn't playing too well with this aircraft.
I should add, I began to suspect this device because I remember having issues with it with the Black Square TBM 850, SWS PC-12 and Flysimware Chancellor in 2020 as well. I got so frustrated that I stopped simming for nearly a year.
I'll do more testing as soon as I have time. I just can't be certain yet despite wasting my entire day But I seem to have issues with this GPS in some planes. Especially ones that use 2 units such as the Duke, PC-12 and 414 Chancellor.
-
I usually use the PMS GTN750 in all the Black Square planes, the only exception being when I decide to go entirely without screens. It doesn't cause me any problems. But that doesn't mean it can't do the same for you. I'm sure the answer is yes, but just in case, you do have the PMS50 updated for 2024?
I seem to recall the PMS 750 had some kinds of conflicts with some of the default avionics in 2020, I wonder if the same thing might be happening here.

Oh, no. I understand. I've been at this far too many years to fail in keeping track of the basics such as that but those years also mean that I sometimes do. 😁
No harm in asking people to check the fundamentals.

@ Tap Road
Update: When piston is removed from community folder then all liveries are shown for turbine duke.
I suggest that BSQ investgates a potential conflict when both versions are installed in community. -
Last night I removed the PMS GTN750 stuff from my Community Folder (MSFS2024) and then fired up the sim and the Grand Duke. The stutters unfortunately remained for me...
And I do have the most recent version of the PMS 750 suite. So I guess I'm gonna have to wait and hope that Asobo can get CoherentGT working better in MSFS2024. Ugh! I miss the Duke and the TBM 850.
