Tab into settings when flying causes the engines to shut down.

    Hi all I was doing a flight tonight turbine duke and I tab into the settings to check something i tab back and the condition levers were in the cut-off position, can anybody enlighten me as to what would be the cause ?????
    not that I mind not doing a mid-air restart I just find it a touch annoying.

    Not sure but if your conditions levers are bound to a controller axis check it was still fully fwd. One of the things that has bugged me since purchasing this wonderful product is that both the condition levers and main fuel selectors are unforgiving in that if you accidently mouse over them in the wrong way, or your axis had them back at zero they can INSTANTLY kill that engine. You just know it is your screw up and react to put them in the right position but alas, you are too late. It would be nice if a 1 or 2 second delay can be added in to stop this happening. My opinion only, but I have become an expert in relighting those turbines from the amount of times this has happened to me already in just two days of flying it.

    In addtion to my post, I have become careful to have the condition lever axis on my controller fully fwd on starting the engines and manually pulling them with the mouse to the cutoff position before actually starting them. Then I manually pull them into RUN and NEVER touch my axis controller. It is a management task that I have come accustomed to. As wth the main fuel selectors be very careful moving them when you do the cross-over part of the checklist or you will be relighting those suckers AGAIN if you accidently put them into OFF.

    Normally that axis is for the mixture control on piston engines which doubles as the axis for condition levers in turbine aircraft. It is a nightmare in the Duke turbine if you do not think ahead. I am sure other people will experience this.

    @CoolGunS thanks i think because I have the mixture bound to my controller thats is the prob I don’t use them in the turbine so looks like I will do a new profile for the turbine . Smiles

    I got caught a few times with the fuel selectors but now I leave the ignition in auto so if I’m quick enough the engines won’t shut off. Smiles

    I use AAO to bind two levers on HC Bravo to Duke's mixture or condition levers (different profile for each). For the condition, the levers in the plane move only after I move my hardware lever past the mid point, so there's no way they would move by accident.
    It would be also possible with an external control program like AAO to set up some delay before the change is sent to the sim so you have time to fix accidental change. Same could be done for fuel selectors so you don't accidentally turn them off.
    As for the behaviour of the engine, didn't try it, but I can imagine, that the turbine flames out, if it loses fuel pressure for even a moment, however, if you had the ignition set to continuous operation, it should re-light when you bring back the fuel, while the engine is spinning with enough energy.

    @Randolf Great idea about autoignition, I will try that. However wouldnt that wear out the ignighters prematurely? Then when you DO need them...

    @CoolGunS well yes, I guess, you should use the igniters in accordance with the pilot handbook, this is just a workaround to your controls problem :)
