Why would a pilot choose one over the other? It seems like maybe fuel type and maintenance could be an issue. But otherwise the stats seem to favor the piston. Why go turbine?

Speaking for myself in a world where I had such money, the PT6 engines are in the neighborhood of 50-70 times more reliable than the Lycoming TIO-541's.

There are a lot of educational articles found via Google search, that provide pros and cons. Keep in mind that a turbocharged piston provides additional pros such as the ability to fly at higher altitudes and achieve higher true airspeeds. Also, I highly recommend that you check out the Black Square "turbo-normalized piston" Bonanza. The documentation is really educational regarding how that works, and it's fantastic to learn in MSFS.

For flying as close I could get to rl in the sim I would choose the turbine only because it uses jet a fuel that you can find in most places a lot easer than avgas . But beyond that I think the turbine is is a little more fun.

@Black-Square more reliable, but way more expensive to maintain
