King Air - cannot disengage AP 'Alt' unless first changing the altitude entered in the Altitude Selector
-
Hi, the subject line says it all really but can I just confirm if this is normal behaviour?
Set alt in box and Climb to alt at which point the aircraft holds the altitude selected with 'Alt' displaying as active. If I then click Alt on the autopilot it will not disengage until I first select a new altitude in the Altitude Selector. Have done this with and without an empty Community folder and get same results. It may well be normal behaviour but just wanted to check.
Many thanks! -
Hi Dreamsofwings! I've definitely seen your YouTube channel cross my recommendations before. Thanks for creating content with my aircraft, and thanks for getting in touch.
I can't confirm the correct behavior off the top of my head for the Collins APS-65, but I can tell you that I would expect the MSFS autopilot to behave that way. The mode control for the default autopilot is a one-way affair, meaning that pressing the same button again will not cause the autopilot to disengage that mode. That being said, now that I know more about the autopilot than I did while creating the King Air, I could implement something similar to this in the next update once I confirm the correct behavior of the APS-65.
To summarize, I will look into the exact behavior of the real world unit, but I do not believe there is anything wrong with your installation, as it is behaving as I would expect in MSFS. I hope that answers your question!

Thanks so much for your response and my sincere apologies for only seeing it now! I was not expecting you to come back so quickly and must have not set up notifications! Really appreciate you confirming the above!
Love your products and the King Air especially. Really is beautifully done!
