MSFS Accessibility Failure settings?
-
I saw a YouTube video yesterday which said that most 3rd party aircraft for MSFS 2020 require the built-in failures in MSFS’s Accessibility menu to be disabled, so that the planes’ internal failure implementations will work properly. (It wasn’t speaking about Black Square specifically.) The only thing I’ve found in my Bonanza manual is that MSFS’s catastrophic engine failure setting must be enabled for a full engine failure to be possible in the analog Bonanza. The manual doesn’t appear to mention the other MSFS settings (e.g., icing, structural failure) at all.
Should I leave all of those MSFS failures enabled for the Black Square aircraft I have (Baron, Bonanza, King Air and TBM 850) if I’m going for full realism when it comes to failures? Or should some of them be turned off, as the video suggested, to allow the aircraft to handle them?

This is a good question! The actual "failures" that can be triggered from the simulator's menu (such as pitot static failures, or oil leaks) can just be left as-is. They aren't triggered randomly, so they should not interfere with the aircraft's failure system. The airframe icing is completely separate from the failure system, so you may set it however you like.
The only other setting that matters is the aircraft stress damage. For whatever reason, opening the cabin doors, or even a side window will cause the aircraft to over-stress instantaneously. For this reason, aircraft stress damage should be turned off with almost any addon aircraft.
I hope that answers your questions! Let me know if you have any more.

@Black-Square - nice! So it sounds like, in the MSFS settings, I’ll want to leave on engine damage (as per your manual) and also leave on icing (which I actually enjoy having to cope with … must be the Minnesotan in me), but turn off MSFS’s aircraft stress damage. And I’m glad you went into detail about that last part, because my question was largely prompted by the fact that, this afternoon, I opened the Bonanza’s pilot side window in flight to hear what the engine sounded like when running at full bore, and to my surprise and disappointment the aircraft instantly broke up, just as you describe.
Thanks much for the great and timely answer, and of course for what have become my favorite aircraft to fly in MSFS. I’d literally only ever purchased one 3rd party aircraft (not one of yours) for any version of MSFS before the holidays this year, but now I already have four of yours in my hangar, along with the taxiway signs (which I also think are awesome), and I’m hotly anticipating the Duke as well.

Yes, you are correct on all accounts.
Thanks for bringing this up again. I just put a note in the FAQ for the Duke so that people can hopefully avoid this issue. Your reply is very kind! I just hope you're enjoying the aircraft. I've built them as I always wished addon aircraft were, and I figured at least some people out there will have the same taste as me. Let me know if you have any more questions! Always happy to help.
