KA 350I ITT extremely high at start-up
-
SOLVED (check edit)
Hi, I don't know if this is normal, but when I start-up my King Air, I ALWAYS get really high temperatures on ITT, sometimes my engines get damaged (really fast) sometimes they don't.
This becomes critical on tropical weathers at 38ºC in the outside. Where it's practically impossible to start-up engines with no damage.
This happens even if I follow the checklist step-by-step. I've watched some videos of real King Air starting up and, SURPRISE!! ITT can even get up to 700ºC and then cool down. Very far from 1100ºC that I usually get.
I'd ask if I do anything wrong, but I follow the checklist, what could go wrong? So, my question is if this may be a bug I experience or if this happen to more people and it's something related to the aircraft itself.
Greetings, Andres.
EDIT: just seen this text in the last patch notes:
'If you are having ITT spikes over the starting redline on every start, wait for the starter to accelerate the gas generator to its maximum sustained RPM, not just 12%. The 12% Ng stated in the checklist is the minimum possible starting RPM in some operating conditions, not when fuel should be introduced before the RPM has stabilized. The engine starting checklist items have been changed from “Low Idle Stable above 12% Ng” to “Low Idle Max Ng Above 12%” to encourage best operation.'So this was my problem, I wasn't waiting RPM to stabilize. Now I've tried to wait for RPM to stabilize and my start-up has gone OK, though still may be too hot, but not above unsafe temperatures.

I'm glad you were able to figure this one out. I will also add that the TBM 850 and upcoming Turbine Duke feature vastly improved PT6 dynamics compared to one of my oldest aircraft. I will eventually bring those improvements back into the Caravan and King Air, so hopefully you can have an even better experience. Enjoy!

The TBM is perfect, taking it to the C208 will be fantastic. Is there a forecast for the update ?
