Window ice doesn't go away
-
I don't know if I've found a bug here. I usually have no issues with ice on the windows, it always disappears shortly after I started the engine and turned on the bleed air etc. However, today I was idling on the ground for about 20-30 minutes with an OAT of -5C and the ice just seemed to be glued on to the windows. I waited for a good 10 minutes at least with bleed on both auto and hi, windshield heat on, highest temp and full defroster. Inside temp was >20C. Is there perhaps some kind of ice build up that after a lengthy period of time reaches a limit at which it cannot be removed by the onboard systems?

@zenit_swe Did you actually turn the window anti-ice on the left panel on? Or just the defroster on the right side at the climate control?
Yes they were on.

Hi All,
I have just tested this on my end, and I can confirm that the windshield ice does dissipate over time, just very slowly. I've found this to be the case with most MSFS aircraft, as it seems the visual icing comes on very quickly, but there is still lots of ice that can accumulate, even after the windows appear completely iced over. If you turn on the deicing in flight, as soon as ice begins to accumulate, you will see if melt very quickly. I'll see if there is anything I can do to make the visual ice accumulation cover more of the actual ice accumulation so you have an indication that it's actually melting.

@black-square another of those MSFS quirks 🙂 Thanks for looking in to it, though this was something of a corner case I guess. I don't usually sit idling on the ramp for that amount of time and I don't recon anyone else do either.

Now in winter time, snow and icing rain is quite common here and I'm running into the problem when loading the aircraft in sim and then doing some flight planning, obtaining clearance and everything, the aircraft tends to ice over too much in that time.
Are there some variables that I can set to make a key binding for "manually scrape off the ice"? :) -

In Developer Mode > Options > Simulation is a slider controlling the Icing level. Moving it all to the left removes everything.

@sg_aviation
That's very good info, thank you, much better than having to restart the flight.
But is there a variable for this icing value that I could set using FSUIPC et al.? -

But is there a variable for this icing value that I could set using FSUIPC et al.?Sorry, no idea. This is a general MSFS question, so it might be worth checking with the Flight Simulator Forums or FSUIPC support.

I find the windows deice far too fast

It's fast when in flight, but sitting on the ground during freezing temps and snow..it takes a while to clear.
