Cannot select Autopilot

All the other buttons on the panel cause the mouse pointer to turn into a hand when I hover over them. However, with the autopilot button nothing happens. The mouse pointer remains an arrow. This tells me the autopilot button cannot be clicked on. Why not?
I doing the tutorial in the manual. I have selected the HDG and ALT ARM buttons right after takeoff.

Autopilot is engaged down on the pedestal. Up on the mode selecter "AP" is only an indicator unlike the for the modes. Can't remember if there also is a hidden clickspot somewhere, but I simply have a keybind for it.

Thank you for the reply. Why wouldn't I think this plane works the same as most other planes I fly? (lol) The lesson here is check the manual. Although, I think the tutorial should have pointed this out.
