Minor rendering issues introduced by SU3 (possible LOD issues?)
-
I’ve noticed a few issues with the Avro RJ since SU3, seemingly just issues with the LOD for various modeling. These are just the 3 I noticed during 1 or 2 quick flights. There might be others.
- From an exterior view if you zoom out even a moderate amount the stairs and the inside of the doors are not rendered. The outside of the door remains rendered.
- The brake temperature lights aren’t being rendered when the camera isn’t fairly close to them. (I also noticed this with the door ajar light, didn't try all the indicators down there)
- The nav lights aren’t visible.
My screenshots are from 2d mode. However, this is especially pronounced in VR based on how the camera positions itself. However it does not require much zooming out from the “standard” camera views to have models not rendered in 2d as well.
In this photo I had the stairs deployed, noticed how the doors are "see-through" as well. If I zoom in they render again:
Zooming out, the brake temperature gauge's lights, become non-rendered. (In VR I have to move my head very close):
Looks fine when zoomed in:
Not huge issues, just minor visual nuisances.

There's an issue on the PMDG forums about planes not working in VR, looks to be a similar LOD issue where it isn't rendering half the usable cockpit knobs and switches.
Cracking good job Asobo

The current version of the RJ (v0.1.3) we list as an "MSFS 2024 Compatible" product, and it therefore still uses the old MSFS 2020 LOD system.
With the upcoming v0.1.4 update, the RJ will be upgraded to an "MSFS 2024 Native" product and will take advantage of the MSFS 2024 LOD system, and will include additional LODs for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. You should hopefully see some improvements here when the update releases in the not too distant future.
The upcoming changelog for v0.1.4 can be found here: https://community.justflight.com/topic/7294/rj-professional-changelog-updated-22-08-25

In the current 1.4 version red/green nav lights are not visible in external view with default zoom. I need to zoom in very close to the plane and the lights suddenly appear. It looks like LOD issue.
Also the cabin is completely dark in external view, even though all lights are on.

Thanks for reporting. We have looked into this in the past with other products, and the Nav light LODs appear to be something that are being controlled entirely by the simulator. We will, however, take another look at a potential workaround ahead of the next update to the RJ.

I know Mark said they’re looking into this. In the last ASOBO update it lists external lights and there lack of visibility as being fixed. If the Just Flight team feel this isn’t the case maybe they could let us know so we can raise it as an item on the ASOBO site.

We haven't looked into the nav light behaviour post SU3, so I can't say for certain yet if there are any blockers that would prevent us from developing a workaround. It's something we'll properly look into when we come to developing the next update to the RJ.
