PSA: Simbrief implemented Takeoff Performance Calculator for Avro RJ
-
I brought this up to the navigraph forums the other day, and when I pointed out that the Avro RJ had the TRP, they implemented flex on both the RJ and the 146.
I’ve noticed in a couple of trips though that it has given me a very high flex temp suggestion, 50 C. I found myself nearly running out of available runway on those occasions. I just dialed it down and found a temperature that seemed more suitable.
-
I find myself skeptical of the performance calculations that SimBrief provides. I've seen weird calculations on various aircraft and who knows where it comes from. Since they have to provide for all those airframes they don't specialize on any of them, if that makes sense.

Isn't that sort of the point? If you do optimal temp and flap calculation in the Maddog, you get the same thing.
You're trading engine wear for runway.

@piedmonitor I know how they source the calculations and while I won't divulge that here as its not my place to do so, they can vary quite a bit in terms of accuracy. the ones for the RJ are very high accuracy (as a note, simbrief tells you the degree of accuracy / fidelity if you know where to look

@JRHorse that's essentially the point... (within safe margins)

I do not know where to look, can you enlighten me?

Same here. I used the Simbrief calculations for HKJK. It showed I barely use half the runway with flex 50. Turns out, more than 4000 meters of runway is not enough for the RJ85. Even in the air, it would not gain altitude at flex 50, I had to switch to climb power early. Sure, HKJK is hot and high, but I would expect that to factored into the calculations.
Either the data from Simbrief is seriously off, or the JF simulation does not produce enough thrust at high derates. -
REDUCED THRUST TAKE OFF PERFORMANCE
I created a performance spreadsheet for the 146 and other aircraft some time ago. I recently included the Avro range but did not have access to the Avro reduced thrust figures. The 146 flex figures err on the safe side. The spreadsheet is available freely from flightsim.to. Note that it requires the installation of Libre Office, which isa free program.

The Navigraph takeoff perf calc for the Avro is inaccurate. Flex coming up as 50 degrees, sometimes the TRP does not even allow me to dial such high value in. Other times I run out of runway and climb out in a 100 fpm manner or even better, the jet nosedives to achieve the desired speed.
Again, this is supposed to be a Professional stuff, allegedly study level. At this price range, I expect the devs to either provide a proper calculator (tool) or at least supply perf charts so we can properly obtain the required values. Otherwise the feature (flexi) is unusable, at least in a realistic manner. Derates absolutely require tools to determine their values.
