TSW5 Class 123, 124 and 128 diesel multiple units
-
Following the superb Blackpool Branches and West Coast Mainline over Shap routes, both set in 1986,I would like to suggest the Class 123, 124 and 128 dmus as dlc for the existing Northern Transpennine route by DTG. These units were in the final stages of their operational life at the time NTP is set and would vastly improve the current timetable. I believe that these classes are ideal for you at Just Trains with your expertise in building 1980s BR scenes.
As a side note, the Class 123 and 128 could, with a little alteration, also be added to DLoGW as they were both operational in 1971 around London Paddington and Reading. The Class 123 were built at Swindon for WR InterCity semi fast services and were originally 5 car, later reduced to 4 cars by removing the buffet cars. These were later allocated alongside Class 123 units to supplement Transpennine services and on occasion could be seen in a mixed Class 123/124 sets.
The Class 124 were built at Swindon for Transpennine services and were originally 5 car, later reduced to 4 cars by removing the buffet cars. These were joined by Class 123 units from the late 1970s until withdrawal of both types and could occasionally be seen as mixed sets.
The Class 128 were built by Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company for use around the North West and the WR. They were built in 2 batches with minor differences. These single car parcels units were the most powerful dmus of the first generation and could be found operating services around Manchester in 1984 and around London Paddington in 1971.
