Is Deicing possible on the ground?
-
Are you referring to the aircraft’s wing de-ice system? If so, no, it is not used on the ground.
-
@Paul-Cairns no, I’m referring to a deicing service such as the one gsx provides.
Some developers have added a de-ice function in the EFB or FMS.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to de-ice the aircraft before departure.
I’m curious if I use the deice function of gsx, does it actually remove ice from the airframe, or is this gsx feature just for show.
I did work out that you can manipulate a slider in dev mode which decreases / increases ice on the airframe though.

From the GSX manual:
Since it’s not currently possible to programmatically affect the icing simulation in
MSFS, what deicers really do, other than offering a nice procedure to look at, is
turning on the standard deicing systems on the airplane. It’s possible that in future
versions of MSFS, if 3rd party apps will eventually get access and influence the
weather, we might update GSX to directly affect the icing effects in the simulator. In other words, it should do some type of de-icing by running the standard systems.
The question is if the JF RJ overrides this or not. -
Unless JF RJ overrides it, the approach used by GSX does de-ice the aircraft.
It's just an ugly way of getting the same result(-ish).
However, that method will not give you any ice protection during the departure unless they run some code that keeps the anti-ice systems running for the duration of the holdover time (which I doubt they do).
