Flight model question for devs
-
Just out of curiousity, during some of the asobo streams they said something about 2020 planes in 2024 and them using a legacy 2020 flight model or something along those lines. When an airplane that was made for 2020 like the RJ for example flies in 2024 does it still benefit from the new "flight model" or does the sim default it to the 2020 "physics" or something along those lines? Just curious if the airplanes have to be specifically recompiled or reprogrammed to see the 2024 benefits or if they just exist in the new physics and interact and still are able to take advantage of the what i assume are supposed to be the improved physics and flight model? Just more of a curiousity of how all that kind of stuff works.

At the moment there have been no changes in the flight model between the 2020 and 2024 versions of the RJ. So any changes that are noticed in aircraft handling in 2024 with the v1.2 release will be purely from the differences in the core simulator.
From my personal experience, I haven't noticed much difference between the flight model in 2020 and 2024, other than the "Realistic" turbulence option being a bit too aggressive (I personally felt that the same setting was too aggressive in 2020, so I fly with "Low" turbulence selected in both simulators).
Our flight model developer has been investigating what changes are available in 2024, but at the moment, there don't appear to be many differences between the 2020 and 2024 SDKs. It's something we are actively looking into though, and we should be able to get a better idea of what changes we can make following the upcoming MSFS patch and any SDK updates.
