I use MSFS entirely in VR and the 146 is pretty much on the limit regarding my system performance. Can someone who owns both and uses them in VR please comment on the difference in VR performance between the two products..

    Thanks

Hi Buzz. Can you tell us what VR set you’re using and your computer spec?

You may need to wait a few days for a reply… have patience.

I'm using a Quest3 on an I9 12900k and 4080 with 32 gigs of fast ram on a modest overclock. The sim runs the 146 well at a mix between mostly high and med settings, but it's at it's limit with the 146.

@Buzz I just did a quick test of both, and performance was comparable between them.

Running a new i9-14900K, 64GB of 6500Mhz RAM, and a trusty "old" 3080ti. I have the sim on default High settings for VR and a Valve Index.

I was getting 45fps for both, which I'm happy with since my headset is currently "stuck" at a 90Hz refresh rate. I did a quick start up and circuit of my home airport of KSTL and saw the same for both. No chop, frame rate was consistent.

I get about the same in the Black Square TBM. The CPU and RAM are new additions; this build is only a few weeks old, and this is my first time really using MSFS in VR so I'm sure I could be tweaking some settings for better efficiency.

I will be spending more time in the coming days, I will keep you updated.

I get noticeably better performance on the BSQ TBM than the 146. Hmm.. I'll be honest. I prefer the challenge of less automation, and I honestly can't find a reason to get the RJ since I have the 146. If there was a noticeable increase in system performance, then yeah.

I would have never expected to the RJ to perform better. I assumed you were worried it would perform worse.

@jmarkows Somewhere, someone from Just Flight mentioned that all the 3d objects in the analog 146 uses alot of system resources in VR and that the flat panel glass of the RJ would give them more headroom.
