ADF Tuning Question
-
I am familiar with this type of ADF. In fact i flew the HS748 for a couple years with it in the RW many years ago.
That said i am unable to got it to pick up any selected ADF station. The ones i flew were true dinosaurs much like these and sometimes to select a station the actual freq selected on the ADF would be off quite a bit......for example looking for an station with freq 300 you might end up tuning 275. I have tried this here. Hence identifying the station was so important.
I have been into the manual but it seems obvious I am missing something here. Any guidance would be appreciated.

@dbw The ADF is functional in the F28 and can be used to track NDBs. On the pedestal, you will need to ensure that the ADF mode selector is set to ADF, and then ensure the correct frequency is tuned into the radio. Once within range of the NDB, you will start to receive an indication of the signal strength on the indicator at the top right of the ADF panel, and the direction will be indicated on the RMI on the main instrument panel.
The technique of tuning NDB frequencies using this type of ADF unit doesn't lend itself very well to flight sim though, as flight sim will only pick up an active signal from an NDB if the exact frequency is tuned into the radio (for example, it will pick up a signal if tuned in at 386.5, but if you change frequency to 386.0 it will lose the signal). whereas with the real unit, you would be able to pick a frequency with a larger error margin. We are looking at a few different ways to see if we can improve this at all, but in the meantime, we would recommend turning on tooltips in MSFS if you would like to use the ADF radios in the F28, as that will show the exact frequency that is being tuned.
