What is the "Up For D/G" switch

What is the "Up For D/G" switch on the Captain and FO lower panel for? Even if its not modeled to actually do anything, what is it's purpose IRL? Can't seem to find anything about it in the manual

I have copied a section of text from the real aircraft manual which will explain the purpose of the switch better than I could:
"At latitudes of more than 65°- 70° the earth's magnetic field is no longer reliable for compass information. In that case or in the event the flux valve or slaving amplifier is defective, the signal from the slaving amplifier can be disconnected by means of a "compass-directional gyro" ("up for D/G") switch, provided on the pilot's as well as the co-pilot's side of the secondary instrument panel allowing the gyro to be used as a directional gyro only."
Hope that helps.

Yes that is very helpful. Is that functionality modeled or is the switch just a dummy?

I've just heard back from the coder of the F28 Professional and yes this system is simulated. If the switch is up (on), the compass acts as a dyrectional gyro and therefore will need manual calibration every 15 minutes or so. If the switch is down (off) the compass is magnetically operated and calibration is not required.

Awesome, thanks for the info and for checking. I love this plane!
