    Hi,

Does not seem to be very important but does someone know what the sense switch on the beam compass does (the manual text does not seem too helpful) and if it is functional?

    Best, Marcel

The sense switch is not simulated in the Vulcan, only because we think it would add some unnecessary confusion to an already complex aircraft. I'll copy a portion of the real manual that covers the sense switch:

"The sense switch is used selectively to control the coupling of localiser radio signals to the azimuth director pointer of both director horizons and to the auto-pilot. The switch has three positions:

      a. When pointing up, QDM localiser signals are fed to the azimuth director pointers (ADP), if the heading index is between the top set of radio-coupled range marks. QDR localiser signals (if selected by moving the heading index between the bottom set of radio-coupled range marks), are suppressed from the ADP's.

      b. When pointing down, QDR localiser signals (if selected by the heading index) are fed to the ADP's but QDM localiser signals (if demanded) are suppressed

      c. When pointing horizontally, there is no suppression. QDM or QDR localiser signals are fed to the ADP's, depending on which type of signal is selected by the heading index."

So in essence, you would only receive flight director indications if you are flying inbound to a VOR if the switch is set to the UP position, and you would only receive flight director indications if you are flying outbound of a VOR if the switch is set to the DOWN position. The horizontal position is closest to what we currently have in the sim, where you will receive flight director indications regardless of your position in relation to the VOR. It's almost like a manual TO/FROM indicator that you'd find in other General Aviation aircraft.

        Hi Mark,

Thanks for your extensive answer! I now understand the usage of the switch in the real plane and totally agree it makes sense not to simulate this (that would lead to way more questions here probably :) )
