Erratic behavior in PITCH and HT hold modes
-
I submitted a ticket today on this subject.
When climbing or descending with autopilot engaged in PITCH mode, the aircraft is at first slow to respond to blue PITCH toggle switch. After a bit, and for no apparent reason, the pitch attitude will change and aircraft will either enter a step climb or descent necessitating disconnecting the autopilot. If you re-engage the autopilot in PITC, the aircraft will go immediately back into the same abrupt climb or descent. Once at cruising altitude, if you try to engage the autopilot with HT (altitude hold) mode, once again the aircraft will enter an abrupt climb or descent, and always in the same direction. It won't climb one time and then descend the next. If the first event was climb or descent, the subsequent events will be in the same direction.
I have looked at all my hardware bindings in MSFS. I cannot find one that seem to be out of place. There have been some similar events noted on some of the YouTube videos of the F28. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I'm not using any GPS or GPS add-on. I do have the stock WT and the extra WT GPS addons in my MSFS install, but I haven't used them with F28, or even before using F28.
Any thoughts or suggestions on addressing this issue?
Thanks everyone!

@richjb I agree there is an issue. I will switch to pitch mode and click back a couple of times to initiate a climb but the plane will initially descend. I see the switch move correctly but as soon as I release the switch, I see the trim wheel move back in the opposite direction ie. forward.
I don't need to disconnect - what I have to do is click the pitch switch but hold it in the climb position until the climb is established, at which point it seems to behave itself.
Until now I thought it could be my use of Spad but as my muscle memory could manage it with little drama now didn't raise it.
But - I agree, there is something here to investigate.

I'm having some problems with the AP
-
When I select GPS the autopilot is not able to sustain level flight. For example. When I select FL 280, the autopilot passes that level and I have to play a bit with the yoke so that it can be more or less close to the level of flight that I want. but it's hard to fly like that.
-
It may be that sometimes I select the type of flap and the V1/Vr for takeoff in the first officer's panel (I'm investigating)
-
It could possibly be due to a tail strike, sometimes the winds are so strong that I hit the runway gently and this can happen (I'm investigating)
all this could be a coincidence or just my F28 sometimes doesn't like to fly lol

Mark asked me to do some experiments with the community folder content. So far, I have not been able to isolate the issue a program in that folder.
I began with just the F28 and there was no issues. I've been added folders back into the community folder until I can reproduce the issue. Will report back on what I find.

@richjb I also see pitch oscillation with AP on HT (entirely on the elevator trim wheel, you can watch it oscillate)
Sometimes enabling the GNS (even if you don't use it) will cause this to stop.
It's usually at lower altitudes or lower speeds but it happens fairly often. T

I have the same problem. I currently have about 110 flights with F28-4000 with and without GPS. The problem with trim and PITCH mode occurs about every 8 flight. Using the GPS is not what is causing the problem. PITCH mode works normally if it reaches a specified level and then FL is raised after that responds normally. I use Addonlinker and the only aircraft I have installed in the community folder are PMDG and Fenix other aircraft I do not have in the community folder.

@richjb said in Erratic behavior in PITCH and HT hold modes:
FlyByWire A320NEO or FlyByWire-External-Tools Simbridge
It's NOT FlyByWire A320NEO or FlyByWire-External-Tools Simbridge. I did a test flight a while ago. No issues...
Keep testing...

Just did an other flight tonight, same problem with autopilot only during initial climb and until 10000/15000ft. First when engaged PA after takeoff, nose diving and aircraft descent to -500ft/min. Just after nose up with a rate of 4000ft/min. So impossible to accelerate to 250kts. When engaging HT to try to stop climb and accelerate, aircraft refuse to nose down, still climbing and crossing 10.000 ft at the speed of 200kts. I switch off autopilot, level off, accelerate to 270tks and re-engage PA with IAS mode. At this time is becoming good with the PA until the end of flight.
Without GPS, community folder empty except only using GSX and some files link to navigraph. Pitch switch and PA activation use via joystick shortcuts.
