F28 Autopilot Pitch Modes Issue
-
@dominicjaermann Thanks for reporting this and for the useful info. We have logged that as a potential issue and are investigating it now.

Seems related to this thread: https://community.justflight.com/topic/5098/can-t-change-ap-pitch/16

@dominicjaermann Just to check, could you do some flights without using the AP disconnect button on your yoke, just Z key to engage/disengage, and report back?
Thanks! -
@dominicjaermann IIRC the fix for AP disconnect button is included in the updated version posted today. Please check it and let me know if it works fine. Thanks!

I'm also having autopilot problems (Pitch / IAS vertical modes), no difference in FD output switching between IAS and Pitch modes. Plane will maintain a +7 degree pitch attitude no matter what I set on the Pitch Command. FD/AP pitch wont change in IAS mode as well no matter what I set the speed bug at.
But, the plane levels off fine when reaching selected altitude and maintains this.Sometime in IAS mode, the plane will climb around 20 knots below selected speed, then dive at 3000 fpm until almost overspeeding, then pitch up and climb at 5000 fpm until speed drops to 160, than the repeat, initiating a new dive.
Basic logitech joystick, AP on/off via keyboard 'Z' key, or virtual cockpit clicking the ap switch with the mouse, no difference.

The flight directors will not command the autopilot, nor the speed bugs. You have to use the pitch switch that’s in blue beside the AP switch to move your pitch angle. The flight directors are not coupled with the AP. So the pitch command on the glare shield is only used as a reference. Same with the speed bug. It’s only used as a reference and can’t be used to control the autopilot.

Have done about 30 or so flights now, to me it seems that after the first takeoff when I engage the AP, it holds the current pitch as it should. However on every subsequent takeoffs it seems as if it remembered a previous pitch value and it reverts back to that, by doing so the trim snaps to its new position. I see the same behaviour with the heading, if I engage it whilst on runway heading, it still inputs an agressive correction to either left or right. But this is also okay on the first takeoff, when I guess theres no previous stored values in the autopilot logic.
Once I accidentally engaged the AP on the ground, but disconnected it before takeoff. After takeoff however, engaging the AP caused the aircraft to try and dive, instead of holding the pitch, again as if it remembered a previous pitch value. The aircraft was trimmed prior to takeoff and after the accidental AP engagement.
Only other thing I noticed, when the aircraft is in a turn in either HDG or BEAM modes, and I want to manipulate the PITCH (already in PITCH mode) with the blue switches, the bank angle gets interrupted, or I am not sure what the right word is. For example it starts to capture the beam, if I then use the pitch switch when the bank is at 10 degrees, it stops rolling further, but once I release the blue switch, it continues to roll further to capture the beam. Anybody experienced this?
Still, nothing major, and still my new favourite aircraft by far! Well done justflight :)

I had a "kamikaze" event tonight on descent to Bergen. Stage 1 down to 6000, all good, leveled off and went to HT. As I came towards CF - hit Pitch mode and started the descent - immediate plunge to 2000fpm.
No matter what I did bringing the nose up, as soon as I stopped pulling up - the dive started again. Hit HT and HDG, wait, pray, Pitch again and same.... AP off and manual for the rest. Normally doesn't do this but today it did.

Look like the here is something wrong with the autopilot at low altitudes below 6000/10000ft.
On departure after take off I have sometimes a nose down with a negative V/S followed by a nose up with 4000ft/min who make impossible to accelerate to 250kts.
And during approach, when HT mode is engaged before glide capture, aircraft is oscillating.
During cruise no problem. Lateral mode seems good during all phase of flight. -
Thank you all for the feedback. We believe the issues outlined in this thread were being triggered by certain weight and balance configurations. We will have improvements to the autopilot in the upcoming update to the F28 Professional, which will also include other improvements, bug fixes, and feature requests.

A few issues in climb when I saved the situation by switching to IAS-mode instead of PITCH. On descent all was well to 7000' when the aircraft would pitch up violently, even pegging the VS needle. No response to IAS mode, and disconnection/connecting the AP helped. The BAe 146 does not have the same issues.
Flew using the Garmin on GPS.
