No AI Traffic Spawning at Smaller Airports
-
Since the first release of FS Traffic, I have been unable to get FSTraffic to show ai traffic at certain smaller/regional airports even though flight schdules were due to operate.
Examples of this include Brindisi Airport (LIBR) and Tirana Airport (LATI)
After much investigation, I have been able to identify the reason why ai traffic was not spawning at these airports is due to the default parking spots being too small. Inconsequence, no departure traffic will spawned when a flight is loaded from these airports, and arrival traffic will land on the active runway and then disappear before taxiing.
This issue appears to be affecting several users and although I appreciate this is a limitation of MSFS rather, than FSTraffic - I'm surprised the team did not pick this up during testing, nor the beta testers also pick this up - as this issue must be affecting several 100's if not 1000's of airports worldwide of MSFS.
Does anyone know of a way to work around this, to change the default parking spots size to allow ai traffic to be active at the airports where the parking spots are currently set as too small, or can the FSTraffic team look at this to determine a work-around or edit to the addon.
It's worth noting that the issue affecting airports where the parking spots are set too small - not allowing AI Traffic to spawn will effect any other AI Traffic addon as well including AIG, FSLTL etc.
If airport addons are installed for particular airports either freeware or payware this would elliminate this problem, if the addon airport parking spots are set correctly to allow AI Traffic to spawn, however not all airports in MSFS have a freeware or payware addon - one example being Brindisi Airport LIBR.
After paying for this addon, it's disappointing to not be able to use the addon to it's full potiential and I'd appreciate any help from forum members or the support team on this issue.
I will not raise a ticket as these seem to take FOREVER to be answered and in me and my friends experience - putting issues on the open forum can lead to them being resolved quicker, when others can openly give suggestions and help to problems. Thanks in advance :)

@jamesdude11 we don't provide support via the forum. It's your prerogative if you don't want to raise a ticket, but don't expect to be able to queue jump other customers by posting on the forum.
You seem to realise it's a MSFS limitation, but haven't thought about where you'd get the best response. You may have better luck asking about editing the default MSFS airports on the fsdeveloper.com forums.

@ch0llis
Exactly the sort of service and I expect from JF Staff - looking at other responses to customers on forums.
I’ll vote with my feet and initiate a chargeback with my bank for goods and services not provided as the product does not fully work.
Thanks! -
read my comments in no traffic at regional airports, I dont think we will get a true response from them, as they do know that there is a problem with FS2020 and FStraffic at smaller airports, yet they have flight plans/routes/aircraft going into these airports, so they know they have a product that does not work so we should get a refund Another annoying thing is why did their so called testers not pick it up and yes I have raised a ticket. still waiting for a response. I do like this product and do hope the can resolve the issue, but if they cant we do deserve a refund
-
@hunterdouglas I’m sure you’ll get a response to your ticket from the support team in due course.
I don’t work in the support or product development team. I’m just here enforcing the rules of the forum, which @jamesdude11 seems to have taken umbrage with.

@gabe777 as far as I’m aware the BGL method is not being used.
As I see it, from the info provided, there are a couple of possible remedies all with their own pros and cons, either Asobo fix the default airports to make parking spaces large enough for the aircraft, users edit the default airports rather than waiting on Asobo, or Just Flight make the Traffic aircraft smaller so they fit but that may introduce other issues.
-
@ch0llis I find that many airports, including some payware, have errors affecting ai traffic that includes undersized parking spaces. I resolve this by editing the airports that I use frequently because I can. In the case that this is not an option for some, changing the aircraft .cfg file wingspan for the particular ai aircraft that you want to appear at these airports is worth trying.
-
@art_p that may be worth trying, and is possibly what the support team would suggest to @jamesdude11 if they were to raise a ticket.
They were asking "Does anyone know of a way to work around this, to change the default parking spot size..." and perhaps my initial response was too curt, but the answers to that question are available over on fsdeveloper.com.
Refusing to raise a ticket then threatening to initiate a chargeback, after being given advice that may help and told we don't do support on the forum, doesn't seem like the best way to get help in my experience.

@ch0llis I do appreciate your help, thank you , and I do hope the team will solve my ticket for me. but in the mean time I would like to test it out at YPMQ for myself and adjust the DH8
you mentioned modifying the cfg file, which line would I modify and to what value please, if it works for me then i'll mention that in my ticket and hopefully they can do a global fix -
@hunterdouglas Just had a quick look, if you open the flight_model.cfg from the justflight-aircraft-traffic-fleet\SimObjects\Airplanes\Just Flight Dash 8 Q400 folder in a text editor (like notepad) find the following lines:
[AIRPLANE_GEOMETRY] wing_area = 1000 ; Wing area S (SQUARE FEET) wing_span = 85 ; Wing span b (FEET)
and change the wing_span line as follows (I've put the usual value in the comment):
[AIRPLANE_GEOMETRY] wing_area = 1000 ; Wing area S (SQUARE FEET) wing_span = 45.8 ; Wing span b (FEET 85)
That should allow DH8s to spawn at YPMQ. It may not be ideal and is firmly in the area of bodge/workaround - changing the wingspan value means that aircraft could spawn at any of the small parking spots, and you may end up with something like the below (exaggerated with extra flight plans) at other airports:
Ideally, the airport would be edited so the spaces on the apron allow for slightly larger aircraft whilst the spaces in the hangar area remain solely for smaller GA aircraft - which I believe is how the airport actually operates. But that's outside my knowledge area and possibly something that Asobo needs to address.

excellent thank you very much for your help, it worked perfectly, I'll go and modify my ticket now to let the developers know
