A few noob questions/issues
-
Hi hoping someone can help with any of the below:
Issues
- Sometimes the aircraft doesn’t fully initialize, the EFB persists with “loading aircraft” in the center and isn’t interactive. It’s impossible to use the aircraft in this state, the throttles don’t work and the engines can’t be started, although switches are interactive. It never recovers. Restarting from the sim or to the main menu doesn’t help, a complete restart of MSFS is required. At this point I have no idea which circumstances result in this state. Any idea how to debug?
- When using “active pause” the aircraft yoke remains fully active but when un-pausing it is completely frozen and does not recover - inevitably resulting in a crash. Hence active pause is not usable. Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong?
- I get the occasional CTD (crash to desktop), which is frequent enough to be quite frustrating. I’ve no idea why - it seems to happen randomly, how can I debug?
- Some of my keybinds don’t seem to work, for example parking brake or increase/decrease flaps (I’m using VoiceAttack but even pressing the key manually doesn’t work). I have to manually interact with the cockpit using the mouse.
N.B. I don’t get any of the above issues in other aircraft, either MSFS or 3rd party.
Help
- How do I use the autopilot to a) achieve some defined flight level, b) hold some defined flight level? I set the altitude on the ALT panel and hit ALT ARM (with two triangles) but that seems to have no effect. If I ascend/descend to that altitude then ALT lights up on the AP panel but again it doesn’t seem to hold the aircraft at that level. Perhaps I totally misunderstand what is possible.
- How do I use the autopilot to hold a defined heading that is not part of a flight plan? If this is indeed possible.
- Ultimately I want to be able to pass the “E” exam in NeoFly, which for those not in the know requires: take-off (have just about mastered that, which includes a power-off and power-on), get to 3000 FT and do a U-turn (mastered that), climb to 9000 FT and remain on same heading (yep, got that although keeping the heading manually), then the tricky bit I can’t get past: Fly a full circle and remaining at 9000 FT. I’m having trouble keeping it at 9000 FT manually (the tolerance seems to be only +/- a couple of hundred feet). Any tips of the best way to do that? Next steps after that are touch n go, then traffic pattern and landing… which will be my next challenges to master.
This is my first “pro level” aircraft and I’m still learning so forgive me if the questions are basic. Thanks for all your help. My system/specs below:
Windows 11 / RTX 4090 / Intel Core i9 / 63GB RAM / HP Reverb G2 VR headset / VoiceAttack / Thrustmaster Warthog Joy & Throttle / Using MSFS 2020

Hi Dan, regarding your "issues" I don´t have any idea bacause it never happened to me and is completely abnormal. I recommend to uninstall and reinstall all.
Regarding AP: the AP must be activated in the pedestal, left of the transponder. Before yu takeoff press the red button in the yoke. It arms the GA (go around) mode for take of. Follow the FD. Arm altitud hold and heading mode.
Once airborne and stablished press the AP right on the pedestal and it will follow the selected heading and will level when the selected and armed altitude is reached.
If you have to fly manually, when you make a turn you always have to pull the yoke a bit to avoid a descent. But depending on you hardware and settings it could be easy or difficult because of the sensibility of it. If you can fly it with the AP and asuming you are leveled, do what I said before, select the present heading, switch AP on and turn the heading knob to the selected heading. In a 360° turn the knob 90° and wait. Before reaching continue turning until you achieve the 360.
There is a good tutrial in the documentation. There are also good videos in youtube. Have a look at JustFlight https://www.youtube.com/@justflight/videos and look the tutorials

To some issues i have an answer:
- As the Active Pause can cause several failures i avoid using this function.
- Do the CTDs happen with different Aircraft or with the 146 only? I've had them too, with any Aircraft, somtimes quite often, but luckily not for a longer time now. I do not know what causes them.
- I use Axis and Ohs to map bindings to my hardware. And i do not know why, but the last days some of them do nor work any longer. Yesterday i wanted to fly the 146 after a longer time and none of my bindings was functional, only the axis were working.
Sorry that i have no solution for you actualy, but want to say that you are not allone, even with some of your issues.
