Checklist says, and I mostly remember before start to shut packs and APU air. When I don't shut them off (because I'm too clever to need a checklist) I have never seen any consequences. In actual operations, is there any material impact if left on?

@b3lt3r I think its power based. As far as I understand it, Packs won't work without Bleed Air, and having Bleed Air on sucks power from the engines which you may not want to lose on take off or start up. I think you can start up with Bleed and Packs on, but I'm not sure what conditions would be to have an impact for leaving them on. Dunno how well it is modelled in game though, maybe it takes longer to spool up or something.

The engines are started by electric motors.
When the engines are being started, the engine bleed air is off so as not to compromise the start up procedure.
It is recommended to turn off the bleed air from the APU so as to ensure that the APU can supply sufficient electrical power to the starter motors without any other power offtakes.
Once the engines are started, the engine bleed air is enabled and the APU can be shut down.
