Ice effects the aircraft?
-
from the Manual,
"This simulation includes support for the MSFS visual icing system. Ice build-up will be visible on the windows,
propeller, engine cowling and leading edge surfaces. Take immediate action in the event of icing."
I just flew for 50 miles with ice on the windshield and windows so thick that i could not see the grey I was flying through, solid ice. In external view it the plane looked clean. There was zero impact on performance, I expect MSFS to crash me in this situation, but I flew on unimpeded. What am I missing? -
I suspect that was the case, certainly a perfect description of the situation. I've heard that sometimes updates effect your assistance settings, so perhaps visual only got turned on. I screwed it up when I went to look as the meta category was set at Custom and I inadvertently reset that to Hard before I realized that what I wanted to do was open the dropdown of individual settings, and of course that set visual only to off if it was not already so, bet that was the problem though. Thanks for the suggestion, off to find some icing conditions :thumbs_up_light_skin_tone:

As an update, I did, with visual only turned off, fly into icing. The aircraft became noticeably heavy (which of course it did not in the flight I described above), but with ice so thick that I could not even make out even the presence of my left wing I was able to cruise in circles at 10,000 feet at just above 80 kts forever. I was at full throttle and max RPM. I could maintain altitude but there wasn't much climb to be had. I gave up after about fifteen minutes and flew in 40 degree F conditions for at three or four minutes before enough ice melted off that I could orient myself visually. All this in a Turbo III.
