Structural icing no longer appears on the C172 either, which indicates this appears to be another MSFS SU7 bug that is not limited to JF aircraft.

That is concerning. I'm planning to continue my tour of the world starting in Montréal which is will be full blown winter soon.

I hope Just Flight will be able to check that up and come back to us soon.

      Really good product!

@sadsky Unfortunately, I don't think JF can fix the bugs in the sim... Asobo has to do that.

Just checked the official MSFS forum and couldn‘t find mention of this issue... for sure it worked earlier. I found an old screenshot from a bushtrip with plenty structural icing 😳

Man, it really is one step forward and two steps back with this sim 😩

@superkaro2014 I also remember seeing visible icing on the wings and tail surfaces in the past... But, I'm not sure if it was before SU6 or SU7?

Until Asobo fixes the visual icing on the wings, you should just assume that if there is ice visble on the windshield, there is also ice on the flight surfaces, and you should fly accordingly. There is a setting in MSFS that will allow you turn off the effects of icing on the flight model... but, I don't know if it still works. I have seen some recent chatter on the forum about this being possibly broken too.

@superkaro2014 Well...I just checked this again. Both the 152 and that new NX Cub? had structural icing. Checked the Piper again.... now its there. :face_with_rolling_eyes:

                    @weptburrito

So what happens IRL when temps are low and there is airframe icing on the ground?

I think you get grounded. Right?

Nah I'm pretty sure you park your plane under the wing of an airliner that's just about to depart and hope when they get sprayed down with deicing fluid some drips onto your plane too, then you hope for the best as you take off into a blizzard :P

Departing from CYWK. Ver 5.1, live weather

                          OAT -5 C
                          Field elev: 1820’ Above MSL
                          Density altitude: 2600’
                          60 gal of Gas
                          Payload:
                          Pilot: 180 lbs
                          Front seat passenger: 120 lbs
Back seat: 90 and 117 Lbs
                          Baggage: 100 Lbs
That’s about 150 Lbs below MTOW and CG is within the limits.

AC off, trim set for take off. Pump low, Flaps 10

                          MP: 40’
                          Prop: forward
                          Mixture: Forward
(Same result if I lean for peak EGT) power applied before stepping off the brakes

                          Rotating at 72 KIAS:

Unable to reach 80KIAS or positive rate
End up aborting / stalling / crashing on the trees

Repeated in KMIA and was able to take off at same settings.

When I spawn cold and dark, the windshield frosts until I turn in the AC and warm up the cabin. Maybe my wings are iced and I can’t see it? (No visual icing effect on them)

There seems to be an error in the calculation. How could you get that high density altitude with minus(!) 5C?

@walterbeech Additionl information is needed to calculate the actual Density Altitude...

An observation only... and really nitpicking.

Just noticed: When a plane is static on the ground, the location of the structural icing would be all over? The model actually seems to replicate a scenario for a plane moving forwards.

True, but one can make a guess. Dew point doesn't affect it as much as temperature and pressure. And to get similar numbers I had to enter 27.60 in Hg. Not unrealistic, of course, but fairly low.

@superkaro2014 I guess accurately modeling where every snowflake lands would be bit of an FPS hit :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I'm just glad to get some sort of indication. I suspect Asobo have other more pressing issues to address.
