Large Gyro Drift

Hi all,

I just flew from KSTL to KAGC in the Warrior II, and holy cow the DI drift! The gyro suction looked good from what I saw all flight, but I had to keep correcting it frequently. It ended up almost 15 degrees off at one point!

I haven't noticed quite as large/often drift in other aircraft, which would be mostly stock. Is it supposed to drift that frequently?

@jmarkows It's caused in part by friction in the mechanical parts of the gyro, so it varies. I thought the gryo drift was controlled by the sim (so it would be the same for each aircraft) but I may be wrong. But yeah I've noticed it drifts a lot too.

Part of a real aircraft's limitations is the gyro drift. It's part of my 15 minute check to correct gyro drift and switch tanks if needed. I personally find it increases my immersion in the sim. I think there may be a way to turn it off, but I don't want to.

@katchaplin Right, I understand it's a real thing, I was just asking if the Warrior's drift is really that bad or it's in need of some model tweaking.

I haven't seen it be particularly excessive, a degree or two each 15 minutes. It's about on a par with what I've seen modeled elsewhere.

I've flown for 23+ hours in this Warrior as by now (and I have quite a few hours in different real a/c with a similar DG), and to me the drift seems pretty adequate. It can vary depending on how much you are manoeuvring and how aggressively. I don't think this particular aspect of the model needs any tweaking. Gyro drift is one of the best working features in this sim.
