Front wheel

  • Hi, overall this Arrow is a good plane but I just don't understand why you can't get it to taxi a little more really .. you don't feel the weight of the aircraft when turning to the right or left it feels like driving a plane of paper .. gives the feeling of being empty of not weighing anything .. and yes that in the bow there is also the engine .. bho! does anyone have any ideas to suggest to me? I also tried to calibrate the Joy's dead zones but nothing ... a real shame ..
    Thank you
    David

  • @Florence This sounds like an FS2020 issue. I don't think the sim actually simulates ground friction and interaction. I think it cheats to make it look as though you're on solid ground. If this is the case, you can imagine how many issues this might create... Not sure why developers like to make their life so complicated with all sorts of workarounds and tricks when nature seems to be governed by very simple rules which create complex behaviours.

TL;DR: Probably an FS2020 bug. Not much to do about that except for complaining on the FS2020 forum 😐

... it seems unbelievable to me that with every update you are unable to solve this problem ... when you land the front wheel seems to go crazy turning right and left ... you cannot intervene by changing the Joy values ..
    DO SOMETHING !
    THANKS Davide

That's the rub. They can't. Asobo have to fix the ground friction simulation before JF have any hope of getting this to work realistically. This problem exists with other airplanes too, including airliners.

  • The new version 5.0 has some significant improvements to the nose wheel steering, especially during the takeoff and landing roll. The steering is reduced significantly as the speed increases, up to Vr (70 knots), making it much easier to maintain the runway center line. But, if you let it go beyond Vr before rotating, maintaining the centerline becomes much more difficult.

Also, just like in the real world aircraft, when you do a crosswind landing the nosewheel will be turned in the same direction as the rudder when it contacts the ground, which will cause the aircraft to try to immediately turn in that direction. So, you should hold the nose up to slow the aircraft down as much as possible before lowering the nosewheel to the ground.

If you are attempting to fly this aircraft without rudder pedals, and are only using a Joystick twist axis to control the rudder and nosewheel... good luck!

    ....that's my case ....☹ ☹
