Engine start not right

    In the real aircraft you should be able to start the engine with the mixture at cutoff if the engine had been primed correctly.

    I don't think so. As you start the engine, the mixture lever has to go to the FULL RICH position.

    Not so. It's a fuel injected engine and in the real aircraft, after advancing the mixture with the fuel pump on to prime, the mixture is set at idle cut-off for start and advanced when the engine catches.

    The POH does not agree with that video. The throttle should be "cracked" (half inch or so from the closed position) for both normal & hot start. Full throttle is only used for flooded starts according to the POH.

    I think we're agreed that the mixture should be at idle cut-off initially for starting, which is what @pilot53 was saying. Thanks for the additional information about the throttle. Interesting that it did start with the throttle closed though.

    @Sender46 @BernieV Agreed. I've played with cold, hot, and flooded starts and the model is not very complex in this area. It seems that as long as the pump was activated with the mixture not at idle cutoff, fuel in the tanks, and the fuel selector set to a tank containing fuel, the model's engine will start.

    That's exactly what I meant, how it works in game, and how it's described in the POH (JF's and the original) to be working.

    In the real aircraft, or any fuel injected lycoming you would put the mixture full rich, then engage the fuel pump until you see fuel flow, then turn off the fuel pump and return the mixture to cutoff. Then you crack the throttle open 1/4" and start the engine, as soon as it fires you put the mixture at full rich.

    Currently this is broken in the simulation, you cannot get the engine to fire unless the mixture is cracked slightly open which should not be the case if the engine has been primed correctly.

    @pilot53 That's how the Arrow is supposed to be started. Something that was drilled into me very early in my Arrow training 20 years ago

    @BernieV For me, the engine starts without any priming all the time. just full rich and throttle cracked. No priming necessary; first flight, last flight, hot or cold...doesn't matter fuel pump on or off.
