GNS 530 and landing gear

Having suffered from the black GNS 530 screen issue (with and without the GNS mod), I was surprised to find that the unit spring to life for a few seconds while the gear is in transit in either direction. It goes black again as soon as the gear stops moving.
Perhaps that might point towards the cause to folks cleverer than me!State saving off
