I think there are some float plane's that have an anchor modeled in msfs. I don't know if the functionality is actually modelled, but I agree it would be a nice to have. I've tended to shy away from floats in the sim as there is a lot of missing physic's needed to make the experience worth while. Maybe that can change with the black square 208. (I didn't even realize we were getting floats modelled with this release until now)

The Albatross(by far the best included plane at any tier BTW), has a brilliant anchor. You can do it from the clipboard or for full realism pop the engines into light beta to hold still while you move forward, pop the hatch and attaches it. Not just fully animated with the float and all, it actually swings at anchor with the wind as opposed to just being locked in place

I never tried the Albatross, gotta give it a go.

Overall, a mooring functionality is what I would mostly love to see for floatplanes, to be able to realistically simulate departures and arrivals, the two key aspects of a journey. To be able to prepare my flight while moored, without having to "pause" the sim, to be able to gently pull away from the dock, not being blown away by the wind without having the slightest chance to intervene; and after landing, nicely pull close to a dock, and use ropes/lines and adjust tensions to nicely bring the floatplane to rest. Something like that.

@jasmits I'd love to see a sound pack for that plane. I should definitely play around with it more.

@SadBucket sound pack would be awesome, engine realism overhaul similar to the Denarq Beech 18 would make it epic. Super solid plane outside of the engine sounds and broad audience engine management(no hurting those radial), it’s brilliantly nicely made. Flies great, water dynamics are great, all around beautiful, good water dynamics. Definitely worth the time if you already have it from whatever edition you got. Probably the only included plane(I have premium deluxe) I’d even say is worth buying from marketplace

@kityatyi technically being blown around by the wind and having a challenge intervening is 100% accurate to float planes

@jasmits Got Friends Wilga float variant has an option to paddle it like canoe.

"Once your paddle is deployed, you can use your flight stick and/or rudder pedals to maneuver
the Wilga in the water. You can hold the flight stick in the direction of travel or physically wiggle your flight stick back and forth to simulate paddling through the water with an increased paddling speed."

One of the Beaver mods for MSFS 2020 also included an anchor. So does the Mario Noriega FN-333. And as already mentioned, the Albatross, and I have to agree with @jasmits that it's the best included plane with any edition of MSFS 2024.

Having said all that... can't wait for this Caravan, especially the floats variant!

@jasmits made me curious about the Albatross. I never even touched any the default aircraft except the SR22. But I now loaded up the Albatross and it's pretty neat. Can someone advise how to deploy the anchor? I couldn't find the keybind, so I guess it's tied to something else. Also, I assume the engines need to be off for the anchor to deploy.

Can someone advise how to deploy the anchor? I couldn't find the keybind, so I guess it's tied to something else.

                      Copy/paste from the Albatross manual (p. 36-37):

Prior to deploying or retracting the anchor certain
                      conditions must be met:

                      • The aircraft must be on water
                      • Ground speed must be less than 10 knots
                      • The nose hatch must be open
                      • Both engines must be shut down, or operating at
                        idle throttle
NOTE: If any of these restrictions are broken then
the anchor will not deploy, and if it has already
been deployed it will immediately retract and stow
                        again.

The anchor can be manually deployed or
retracted by clicking on its hook on the
                      compartment wall.

The anchor may also be retracted (only) by
clicking the rope latch on the hull just
                      forward of the nose hatch.
The anchor can also be deployed and
retracted via the accessories clipboard in the
                      cockpit, however the same operating
                      restrictions apply.

Not sure is there any keybind for anchor.
You can get latest Albatross manual (v2.2.8) from HERE

@kityatyi hehe, stick the engines into light beta so it’s holding still not moving along at idle, move the camera under the panel, open the door to the front, open the front hatch toss the anchor in there!

Or be boring, there’s a clipboard next to your left leg someplace, can be deployed from there.

For the most part I’d agree the stock planes aren’t worth the time, the Albatross is actually a gem

Checked it out - found the anchor, found the clipboard too, thank you!

I will thoroughly testfly this aircraft, probably somewhere in BC, Canada (as of today 😛 ). The manual suggests it's a pretty detailed aircraft which I didn't expect.
