FS Traffic for 2024
-
How does it work, compared to the default live traffic? Do I still need to configure where I'm landing to populate the destination with traffic, and all airports en-route are empty?
-
As with all of our MSFS products, the initial MSFS 2024 native updates are focused on bringing the products across with their MSFS 2020 feature sets, albeit in most cases with significant MSFS 2024 compatibility work and improvements.
We have not yet fully investigated what new features we can bring to FS Traffic in MSFS 2024, and we'll likely need to wait for some improvements and stability in the simulator's core traffic engine before we can do that. We can only hope those will come in the upcoming MSFS 2024 Sim Updates.
The FS Traffic manual for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 can be viewed here and includes a Quick Start Guide and our recommended settings in MSFS 2024.

I went back to default

I wish it was possible (maybe it is), that someone just developed a comprehensive livery package for every jet modelled for AI use in MSFS, with additional models for planes not already modelled. Hopefully the live traffic for both ships, boats and planes will be improved enough during the next couple of Sim Updates to give a satisfactory experience if the system can call for all the real ships and liveries that your personal installation have access to. I belive thats the goal of the MSFS 2024's traffic system...?

That's a question I ask myself as well: Do I understand it correctly that FST does actually not populate the whole region where I fly with traffic, but only traffic on, into and out of a specific airport I need to select?

After spending the entire afternoon doing various in-depth tests, my conclusion is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't know who's to blame, the simulator or the add-on, but I haven't found a logical explanation.
I used the same settings in both the simulator and FS Traffic. Sometimes traffic is displayed and sometimes it isn't, both on the ground and in flight.
I've tried larger airports (where it's impossible not to have ground traffic), doing shorter flights and slightly longer ones. I've changed the time of day, changed options in FS Traffic, like Time Before Departure Value, deleted traffic, and then regenerated it, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern.
When it works, everything works fine, and when it doesn't work from the start, no matter what I do, it doesn't work.
The truth is it's a bit frustrating and the program's behavior is quite random.

I really have no clue if or how it's working atm. I fly gliders almost exclusively, but wanted FS Traffic to have an imemrsive, realistic radio traffic.
In the twoo weeks I now own and use FST, I've heard maybe a total of dozen or so aircraft of airlines, usuallly KLM or Lufthansa, when tuned in on busy centers like Zurich, Milano, Marseille, Vienna. All the rest are "Generic" XY, which I asome are actually other online players.
I also see the occasional contrail, maybe 5 or so during a one hour flight. Never saw more than two contrails at the same time, again in areas which should realistically be very busy. For me that just seems like FST doesn't populate the skies around me at all. If that's an error on my side (even though I adjusted my settings as proposed) or a bug, or wrong expectations, I do not know.
