Livery pack for Velocity XL, any planned texture updates?
-
Hi @Black-Square , do you have any improvements planned for Velocity XL textures in a near/medium-term update (e.g. the landing gear area, weathering), any planned extra liveries, and would you object to a 3rd party dev releasing a Velocity livery pack that would allow Xbox users to get extra liveries?

I would love to do a major update to the Velocity, as I think about it every time I see it. Unfortunately, I have been so overwhelmed with just getting it working to my standards in MSFS 2024 that all my time and ambition for updating an old aircraft has already been consumed. You have my promise that I would like a major update as much as you.
Since liveries on Xbox must be sold for a price (no free packages), we would need a contract with every livery developer giving us permission to sell their liveries, even it a very low price. I don't know if Just Flight has any experience with this, but we can explore it if you come to me with a selection of liveries and the people who created them.

@Black-Square Where should I reach out if I wanted to discuss this, I don’t see a PM option here.

@Black-Square I reached out to JustFlight in case they're interested.
I just finished a livery based on the N956M, which is the nicest build I've seen so far:
Must see video for Velocity fans:

@Black-Square Would you consider adding a speedbrake? This seems to be a feature of most Velocity builds, and most Rutan-derived kits as well, for that matter. I find that it's really hard to fly the Velocity using realistic power settings without it.
Inspired by your suggestion in the manual, I tried a few engine iterations, modifying the FDE for a IO-360 (180hp) and IO-520 (310hp), before reverting back to to the default TSIO-540 spec with my invisible speedbrake mod. The 180hp version was the only one I could get into the pattern with what I consider a "reasonable" profile. The stock and IO-520 versions seemed to require chopping the power about 10 miles from the airport to avoid flying a massive pattern. The guy with the LS3-powered Velocity could probably get away with it, but I think everyone else with a big motor would avoid that kind of thing.

@C525B Is it possible to also add a reverse option by messing with the cfg files? That's a really nice option on the real-life N956M and in the game you wouldn't have to use pushback. Doesn't even matter if it's the actual feather axis or throttle, it would only be for occasional use.

@Marionettework You could play around with that, the variables are there in engines.cfg. It's very rare for a piston-engine airplane to have a reversing propeller though, but there are exceptions...The PMDG DC-6 has it and it works, as does the Grumman Albatross in FS2024. I've never tried to set up reverse for an airplane that didn't already have it, so I'm not sure what steps are involved. You would probably have to mess with the prop tables in the .cfg.
