I have read the manual but did not find the answer...

Does anyone know how to cross-feed fuel between the main tanks?

Fuel cannot be transferred between wing tanks in the 146/RJ; however, X-FEED can be used to supply fuel from a fuel tank in one wing to the engines on the other wing to correct a fuel imbalance.

The correct procedure to do this is:

    1. Set the X-FEED switch to OPEN
    2. Set L COMMON FEED and R COMMON FEED switches to OPEN
    3. Set L STBY PUMP and R STBY PUMP to ON
    4. Set the INNER and OUTER fuel pumps on the wing with the lower fuel level to OFF, and leave fuel tanks on the wing with the higher fuel level to ON.

This will then mean the wing with a higher fuel level will be supplying fuel to all four engines. When the fuel imbalance is corrected, repeat the above process in reverse order to return to normal operation.

    Hope that helps.

Mark, technically fuel can be transferred between tanks - but only while on the ground.

Two procedures. The first is used by engineers, typically when using a fuel component, and requires total fuel content to be less than the capacity of a wing tank. For this procedure use is made of the refuel panel and its switches to move fuel from one tank to the other.

The second procedure would normally be used by the pilots if they have somehow ended up with more than the 680kg fuel asymmetry permitted between wing tanks, and utilises the centre tank transfer system. It is considerably slower than the procedure that uses the refuel panel (above).
