Question about getting the T/C and T/D points to shown on the nav display...
-
I’m having a little confusion as to why I’m only sometimes seeing the top of climb and top of descent points on the map of the navigation display.
I flew a flight yesterday and the T/C and T/D points were not shown on the nav display. Today, I followed the exact same flight plan and I think performed the same procedures and the T/C and T/D point WERE shown on the map as I was expecting. When the T/C and T/D points are missing, the FMS’ progress page says the top of descent (or maybe it was the top of climb?) is the airport itself.
What would be some obvious things to look out for when setting up the FMS and anything else that might cause the T/C and T/D to not be calculated and displayed correctly? The only thing I can think of is maybe I’m inadvertently doing things out of correct order on the FMS...

Okay thanks! I'll make a sure to double check that I'm setting everything correctly each time on that page.
Do I also need to be cognizant of when I start entering that data (assuming I already have the fuel/weights finalized), if I do it before/after certain procedures and other FMS setup, is it possible that it won't calculate correctly? Just thinking that might have been a variable between the flights where it worked for me and where it didn't.

The FMS will base its calculations on the last time something was EXECuted. Any calculations the FMS makes are based on the data entered into the RTE and PERF INIT pages, so in theory, the calculations should get more accurate every time something is EXECuted. For example, if you execute a flight plan change in the climb, the calculated T/C point will be updated based on the aircraft's present performance.
