Something strange happening with bomb bay doors

Hi, I am having a slight problem with the bomb bay doors, following the tutorial videos it says the check bomb bay doors switch is in auto position, it seems to load in with the switch in the open position, I did think it previously was in the auto position by default, I might have imagined that but what I am finding is the indicator is showing cross hatched, which as I understand means they are in transit. In the tutorial video it's solid white. If I select the switch to auto it has no effect on the indicator it remains cross hatched. It's not a massive issue as it works once the engines are started.
Another thing that I find confusing is in the shut down procedure it says to turn of the AVS switch but when does that switch get turned on, I have watched all the tutorial videos but missed the point at which it is turned on.
I hope my questions make sense, I sometimes have difficulty in wording my questions.

The BOMB DOORS magnetic indicator will show cross-hatch if the doors are in transit or if the doors are in motion. So when you load into the aircraft in a cold and dark state, there won't be any electrical power, so the indicator will show cross-hatch.
Switching on the AVS master switch is the final step in the After Start Checks.
