TG EA : how good it is after 2 years ..

Q : Does TG work correctly now ?
Quote from a topic at Avsim :
“Depends what you mean by working correctly. If you mean does it put traffic at airports globally, then yes, it does do that, just not very convincingly. It's still an early access product, so there is no guarantee that it will work anything near perfectly, which is the deal one agrees to when buying an early access product. Having said that, when I look at my Just Flight account and see when I bought Traffic Global, it tells me that my purchase date was 31/05/2018, this means it's only got about three months to go, and it'll have been in 'early access' for two years.
Now call me picky if you like, because they never actually stated a release date, but having something in early access for nearly two years is, quite frankly, taking the p***. I could perhaps forgive this a bit more if it had shown a ton of increasingly more impressive improvements over that period of time, or been sold at a rock bottom bargain basement price to offset its somewhat underwhelming features, but it was £27.99 for the early access version instead of its (alleged, since it's not been released as a finished product) regular price of £34.99. So you got seven quid off the price of it, which is undeniably a discount, but given that it's fallen well short of delivering on the big promises it was supposed to fulfill, and taken the best part of two years to even manage that dubious accolade, that doesn't seem like a great discount to me.
But all this complaining aside, it does put traffic at airports, globally, and that traffic is not the default FS aeroplanes with their fictitious liveries. So it kind of works. But it's a long way from being a close “

" it's fallen well short of delivering on the big promises it was supposed to fulfil"
" it's a long way from being a close “I do wish he'd elaborate on these points. Also, you have truncated his quote. My reply in Avsim, for what it's worth:
"it's fallen well short of delivering on the big promises it was supposed to fulfil"
What is it not doing that you think it should do?
"it's a long way from being a close facsimile of what you really see at those airports. "
It uses a real-world database, real aircraft and real liveries. It is never going to be possible to create a program that mirrors FlightRadar24, globally, in a sim. All you can do is provide a compromise that adheres as closely as possible to the real-world situation, within the limitations of the host.TG is due one more major update that will update the database and add some new aircraft, but, in terms of what it's supposed to do - adding AI traffic to FSX and P3D - it already fulfils that function.

The database update in particular being the more important component -

One of the problems with TG for the users is the Scenery folder it is not optimised for TG to give a good level of AI traffic TG will only load what the AFCAD`s allow for.
I do hope the problem aircraft have been corrected AKA Cargo aircraft not showing in P3Dv4.5 (reported last year on the now defunct early access forum).
Looking forward to the final release.

Hi Ray,
I've put a new build out today to our testers. The app has been updated so that it will recognise any third party scenery, whether its installed into P3D locally, into \Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons or in a completely custom location outside either of those two places.
Also included is a cargo-specific flight plan generator outside of the normal commercial traffic compiler. This will generate multi-legged flight plans between any and all airports that have cargo spaces, and adds a separate cargo bgl to the sim. We also have new aircraft types and cargo liveries in-bound.
Also coming is a brand new set of GA aircraft and a dedicated GA compiling system that will populate all the GA airports in the sim. -
@Rich
Looking forward to testing when we get it.https://www.flickr.com/photos/154944674@N05/49593041727/in/dateposted-public/
My Present TG AI just short of 35,000 compiled plans to much at large major airports like EGLL have to pull it back. -
9 weeks 4 days = TG's second birthday!
I must send JF a card....:beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Btw...though it's great to hear that the GA is (hopefully) moving away from frame rate hungry default and T360 models and that cargo flights are finally now being addressed, what's happened to the often-promised update to the scheduling that has been in the works since forever?
eg:
extract from 'Update on End of Early Access' posted by Derek on the EA forum 31 May 2019:
"As Rich posted some time ago, he is working on an update that will change the way flights are scheduled" -

Looking forward to that, Rich.
Maybe now we'll get some liveries applied to these rather nice models...
(hope all at JF & their families are coping ok during this unprecendented crisis) -
After having read the issues that exist with the just released update I find it a pity that after 2 years, at least having all models/repaints correct has still not been achieved..

Thanks Capt. Things are a little difficult at the moment as we try to balance family and works needs. We're still working though, albeit some of the team at a reduced level just at the moment. Hope everyone out there is staying safe.
At the moment the latest aircraft files issue was an EA release rather than an official update. The aircraft will continue to be worked on to address any feedback that has come in.

@Rich
The overriding priority is the continued health of you all and of your families. Though I'm certain that we all appreciate the fact that you're all doing that you can to continue working on your products, some delay in their release is most definitely very understandable.
Stay safe!Frank
