As the devs are no doubt aware, the HRS or Heading Reference System was a very accurate gyro heading system added to the Vulcan in the late 60’s.

It’s purpose was to provide the ‘Navigator Plotter’, the senior guy in the back, with a stable and accurate heading to inject into the various gadgets that made up the nav system.

One of the functions was a big heading dial that the Plotter could turn to command a True Heading for the aircraft to follow. This True Heading was then sent through the system for the pilots to follow on the director horizon. The ADP would command a bank to follow the heading. Exactly as it works in the other modes we already have.

For all this to work the ‘Navigation Selector’ needed to be in the central position and the ‘HRS/MFS’ switch was placed in the HRS position.

Since the HRS/MFS switch actually does nothing currently in sim, would it be possible to add a very simple ‘NAV PLOTTER’ heading input box/dialog on the EFB?….to represent his heading dial…….And then add the functionality that when HRS/MFS is in HRS, the ADP commands a bank to follow the entered heading…..(it would be True Heading, not Mag).

Adding this wouldn’t actually interfere with anything we already have and would add some immersion when navigating around using something like Little Nav Map. The inbuilt GPS is both too easy and not at all representative of what real Vulcans in service had.

    Worth a think? Thanks.

This suggestion has merit and though a small compromise, is presents as a clever way to achieve a useful additional feature. Let's standby for the JF team to react.
Navigation, though of course not everyone's cup of tea, is very much a skill which many in the flight sim community particularly enjoy and focus on. The Vulcan, is an old lady of the sky, where the modern GPS, thankfully included to both represent the fact that the Vulcan eventually did have one and to increase the appeal of the product to the wider community, of course was not installed during her operational days.
The old skool radio navigation is a fun challenge and the sense of achievement when using it successfully adds hugely to the experience.

Good OP suggestion. I'm write in support of it.

Thanks for the great suggestion. Whilst we can't promise anything until we get a proper chance to look into this in the new year, it does sound like something we should be able to add.
