Performance at night / Dynamic lights

I thought I'd have a look at this for myself and record the framerate for a series of scenarios at UK2000 Extreme EGLL on 2018-06-21T 02:00Z in P3d v4.5
I've concluded that the drop in framerate has nothing to do with TG. The same problem occurs with other traffic, other models, and with no traffic at all.
I can't post a table directly because text seems to be reformatted, so misaligning the columns, but here's a screenie of my results.
Traffic was derived from:
Traffic Global 1.1.1.1b
AIGroup - everything that OCI could find
ORBX various sceneries
UK2000 VFR Vol 2Hello Dai.
Dynamic lights for AI have been turned on with version 1.1.1.2, so the one you tested has still no impact on performance. I had the same results as yours in v1.1.1.1b, because there's no DL in TG traffic
And as I said to one of JF representatives on a ticket I submitted, TG AI traffic has taxi and landing lights turned on even when parked at gates, generating even more poor performances.
I agree that DL has a hit on performance, but this last glitch can be corrected by JF in my opinion, and it can improve performance

Thanks for pointing that out -- I did suspect that an update to TG might have some bearing on matters.
The point I wanted to make was that dynamic lighting has a detrimental effect on framerate regardless of AI and the OP may have been confusing traffic with dynamic lighting when deciding on the culprit. Also, it may not be TG but all or any AI.
If you have the patience, perhaps you could run a similar test with v1.1.1.2 and post your results. I'd expect to see a bigger drop in the relevant cells in the two left columns.

Hello D.
Yes, you're right, DL has a great impact on the overall performance of the simulator.
But has I said up above, taking FlyTampa Toronto as an example at night time, I have very good frame rates with DL turned on and AI turned off. If I turn on AI traffic at 100% (yes, it's an extreme) frames drop more than 20, with DL on on the rest of the airport. So it's the AI alone that cuts the frame rate so much.
If I cut the traffic to 20% I have between 15-20 frames per second. If I cut it to 0% frames go to the 30s.
Maybe cutting taxi and landing lights to all the parked aircraft, a glitch on JF side in my opinion, could bring back frames to an acceptable number even with everything turned on.
Bye!

Here I use FsReborn Pro nightlighting with TG. Improved nightlighting and less impact on fps..
Good to know! I was evaluating FSReborn but I'm afraid that it's up to JF to correct some stuff in Traffic Global like taxi and landing lights on at gates.
Is the difference really noticeable with FSReborn?
Thanks

I bought FS Reborn AI Lights and it is a very good program, but it doesn't solve this glitch of TG AI Planes.
I then took some time to see if something could be done in P3D to ease the situation, just moving some options.
What really makes a HUGE difference is turning off LANDING LIGHTS ILLUMINATE GROUND. At that point all landing lights of AI planes cease to illuminate the airport and frame rates make a huge bump upwards, going back to 30 and more, with still all the rest of dynamic lighting turned on, both on planes and on the airport itself.
And all the advanced planes (Aerosoft, PMDG, ecc.) are not touched by this change because they have proprietary lighting and they STILL illuminate ground with landing, taxiing and turnaround lights. The default F22 on the other hand will lose this feature, for example. Same will be for AI on landing, but this way you can still afford to leave traffic at 100% at night even on complex airports.
Still I believe that if JF could turn off landing lights for parked planes this workaround would not be needed anymore.
Hope this helps people having the same issue and maybe not a super recent rig like me.

Hi,
I as well am having the same exact issue. Never had at a problem flying at night up until recent weeks. Day flights are smooth and great. After doing some testing and researching for couple days, I figured out that the AI traffic density is what causes the massive fps drop especially around cockpit view (using ChasePlane) and outside at times in certain areas (tested at the gate in CYYZ). I have to leave it at 10% for it to not cause spike lags or stutters. I'm sure you already gave that a look. It's quite annoying since I never had problems before. I hope this is something that JF can look into and update.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I literally spent 2 days tweaking and playing around to find a workaround this. Gladly the lights still illuminate with A320. Although if I use any other aircraft I still have to enable lighting illumination and hence repeats the low FPS hit again. Kind of annoying that I once was able to have all dynamic lighting on and work flawless before the latest update. JF needs to really look into this. Unless there's a way in cfg settings that I can just turn off AI illumination until the problem is updated.

I also tried AI Lights Reborn hoping that it would work but as stated above this doesn't solve it. Great add-on though.
