Update
-
@melon First things first, the FMS - that's me being as positive as I can stating it will be in the next couple of days (something I did believe last week), maybe a tad optimistic, we shall see and then somebody else at JF, he who pens the news items opting for a more cautious stance by stating in the coming weeks. We shall see what happens, it very much depends on what the next build from the developer pans out like. It's looking very good, better than we'd originally hoped but a few things aren't quite working as we'd hoped so more work and more testing is required.
On the calculators, we should have mentioned this previously. When we stated 'we are nearly finished...' that actually meant the third-party developer was nearly finished. That was the case back then so there was hope that it'd be done pretty soon and definitely in time for this update. We were then let down and the said developer disappeared into the distance. Several attempts have been made to rouse said developer but all to no avail. So for now we have to concede that that's not going to be happening anytime soon. It's on our minds and something we're looking at other options for, but not going to promise anything on it for now. So, sorry to anyone who was waiting for that feature, we were let down, simple as that I'm afraid.
Not obliged to answer questions about how we choose to allocate our resources and manpower but suffice to say the people coding failures and some of the other 'requested' features that have made it into this update were not responsible for working on the FMC coding (that's from a third party) or the calculators coding (that was due to be from a third party). Of course we understand the 'failures' feature is a bit of a luxury item, there are other things that have been coded and implemented that weren't part of any original spec for the plane but that people have requested, might be a small number of people, but it's noted so when the opportunity arose the dev team took it and proceeded to get that and other features in there and working for the community. Of course not everyone will utilise and get the most out of some of those things, that's a given, it's not going to halt us trying to make the a/c the best it can be, within the restraints of the host sim of course. And to repeat the inclusion of that and anything else in the update hasn't been to the detriment of anything else, nothing else has been sacrificed.
It's a shame your friend isn't going to get the 146, that's his prerogative though and fair play, Maybe one day when the FMS is in there and working nicely he might change his mind. Not the end of the world if he doesn't though. Each to their own and sure he'll just love the RJ when that becomes available.
Thanks for your interest.

@p919h_lm Yep we did consider waiting to include the new FMS in this update. Had we done that though there would have been posts asking why we were delaying the rest of the update just for the FMS and if that happens to drag on into next week or past that then we just get pilloried even more.
So a decision has to be made, we have to make that decision so that's that really. Sorry it's not what you would have chosen to do. Hope you continue to enjoy the update and hope the FMS will be to your liking when it arrives. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks for the update @Voice-of-Reason, really appreciated. Looking forward to the eventual FMC upgrade. Seen it on the Dash 8, seems to be the UNC, looks very different than the usual Boeing ones.
Any update re the RJ? I presume the UNS is going to be in the RJ too since you're spending so much time on it?
Kind regards

Anyone know the updated version number?
I’m showing version 1.8 as of now (1353 US Central Time) but have not noticed anything new.
I did make the mistake of purchasing thru Marketplace (never again!) but I assume that it was updated as well.
Also, did I read right… no UNS-1? If so… ugh!!!!! I’ll keep on flying convention VOR Airways.
Thanks

@voice-of-reason well, like i said, it's one of my favourites. And i like the way it is currently. Haven't flown it yet, but the failure system looks nice. Just a suggestion regarding that, and this is entirely my own niche requirement, but i would like to have an option like in black square overhaul mods where i can crank the failure probability really high. So that it's guaranteed to have a random failure in a 1 hr flight. That way, there will be a bit of surprise element but i won't know exactly what's going to fail and when. Not sure how high probability does the high setting has though.
Hoping to get the UNS soon. The lack of perf calculation is a bummer but I suppose in due time we may see it. Also hope the RJ professional is very close to release. The short stubby planes are a bit of a weakness of mine it seems, same for the A310/18/19.
Again, appreciate the update.

@big-brown You can't just yet. We've sent them the updated files it's down to them now in terms of how long it will take them to get the update live. Hopefully on Thursday the update will be there for you.

Thanks for the info!

@voice-of-reason It is wild to me how much of this is outsourced. I hope you were able to get a copy of all that work the guy did on the calculators, like backed up in cloud storage as he went along with it.
I love this aircraft and what you have all done with it, but it was hard to not be disappointed when things don't meet your expectations for an update. Sorry if I sounded rude.

@voice-of-reason It is wild to me how much of this is outsourced.
Most specialist developers in flight and train simulation - in fact, a huge percentage across the entire games industry - are freelance. Given the global nature of the industry this is simply how things work nowadays. The development of Flight Simulator itself was outsourced and I would be surprised if all the development was done by Asobo's (the company to which it was outsouced) employees beavering away at desks 9-5 in their offices in Bordeaux. We have a number of people working at Just Flight and Just Trains 'on the books' but we also work with freelancers. Some on a regular basis and some for one-off projects.
