Transponder woes

Hi there,
In preparing for a flight on the vatsim network, I have hit a stumbling block in the entry of the squawk code issued by the controller.
My transponder panel does not appear to be turned on, the screen does not illuminate, I can not switch between ATC/FID.
I hope I am being daft and there is a button somewhere that powers it up.

@cannonouscrash Make sure your Master switches overhead are on, It is all right there on the transponder. Following checklist will result in operational Transponder :)
