trim issues

Re: Trim
there was an older post mentioning some issues people were having with trimming the hawk for level flight. it appears as though it was supposed to be fixed in a patch that would have come out a few months ago.
i just picked up the hawk and really like the plane! so well done.
unfortunately, i am having big problems trying to get the plane trimmed out for level flight. it doesn't matter what the flight level is or where i have my throttles set to, i can't control the trim on this beast. it will settle for a very short amount of time and then it will either start climbing or descending in pretty dramatic fashion which means i am religiously managing the trim from start to finish.
is this really how this jet is in real life? i would have assumed a platform used by an aerobatics team would not have this issue and while i don't expect cessna 172 stability this just doesn't seem right.
i am using a hc bravo with the trim wheel. i attempted to unmap that and only use the buttons on the hc alpha yoke. neither one relieves this issue. i also attempted to just use the keyboard commands (numpad 1/7) and am experiencing the same behavior.
i have gone in and lowered the elevator trim effectiveness number from 1 -> 0.5 in the flightmodel.cfg file and that has helped temper the swings quite a bit but it still will not remain in level flight regardless. it's like i am always missing that middle point that will provide some equilibrium.
aside from purchasing something like AAO (which was mentioned on the msfs forums) is there anything else i can do, or am i doing something wrong?

quick update on this - i ended up changing out my controls from the honeycomb alpha and bravo and went back to an old stick and throttle i used for dcs. i mapped the trim (nose up / nose down) to one of the switches on the stick. things seem to be working quite a bit better. the plane definitely won't go into a nice stable trim but it's far more docile and controllable compared to what i was trying to deal with on the hc bravo and the trim wheel. and what shouldn't come as any surprise, it's nicer flying the hawk with a proper stick versus the yoke that i use for all my other planes.
anyhow, unless anyone has any other ideas, i am considering this case closed for me, at least.
