BAe-100: Flare Sensitivity & Porpoising
-
Hi,
These aircraft are superb, thank you for such polished products.
I am having a hard time correctly flaring the BAe146-100 for a smooth touchdown.
I begin to open the speedbrake at 30’ or so, and at Vref I pull back very slightly to flare, but I inevitably end up porpoising (for a crunch-down a bit further down the runway).
I don’t have this issue with the -200 or -300, but since it is a little lighter than the other models, perhaps It’s my technique, or perhaps it’s too much elevator authority.
Thanks,
Fabio -
Agreed, pitch sensitivity may be the cause.
I had a similar issue in the -200 after a visual approach.
Despite the barn doors open at the back, she ballooned like a champ.
My error as the approach wasn’t stable, but I wouldn’t have expected to gain quite so much altitude. -
@fab10 just giving me more pitch down authority didn't completely resolve the issue - nose still rises. Next landing I will manually apply some nose down pitch after a/p disengage and hold it up in the final descent on the stick. Hopefully that means a tendency to drop the nose after I have the mains down.

Yes i agree, i do have the same issue... after touch down the front wheel is rising up.
i think it is not "real" and it bothers me... a landing with "nose down trim" not the perfect solution ;)Maybe developer is changing the aircraft behavior with a future update... ?
Greetings, Volker.
