Default pilot view left outside cockpit
-
@skeptikantin [SHIFT] + [F10] works the same in the PA28 as it does for any other MSFS aircraft... If you haven't tried it, I would recommend doing so. All it does is to restore the default pilot viewpoint to the position that has been preconfigured by JF in the cameras.cfg file. This default viewpoint can then be changed by manipulating the viewpoint location and zoom factor in MSFS, and then storing a new custom default pilot viewpoint using [CTRL] + [F10]. The reset cockpit view function bound to Button 2 on your ALPHA will then set the viewpoint to this new custom location and zoom setting.

@retiredman93231 Thanks for the explanation, so I either have not yet understood Shift+F10 properly or I am missing something very basic. In any case, whatever Shift+F10 is supposed to do, it does not do anything in the PA28, but things are happening in default aircraft. So Shift+F10 does not seem to reset anything in cameras.cfg. (Which is my main point, the PA28 is the odd one out no matter what reset/save strategy I tried.) Thanks very much for the pointer tho, I'll do some research!

@RetiredMan93231 Did some research, but not sure. Is Shift+F10 supposed to change a value in cameras.cfg or is it supposed to reset to that value? I checked the file and "InitialXyz", which I assume is the line in question, is set to [0,0,0], so really not sure why I end up several feet left of that zero point.

@skeptikantin Yes, The InititalXYZ value (0,0,0) in the cameras.cfg file located under the main aircraft folder is the JF preset default viewpoint that [SHIFT] + [F10] will restore to... The value in the file does not change.
When you use [CTRL]+[F10] to set a custom default viewpoint it is stored in a separate cameras.cfg file located in another aircraft folder found under LocalChache/SimObjects/Airplanes/. Look at the InitialXYZ value in that file. If the file is present, the entries in this file will take precedence over the entries in the main aircraft cameras.cfg file... It is only created when you save a custom viewpoint, and it can be deleted entirely to remove the custom viewpoint. It will then be automatically recreated when you redefine the custom viewpoint.
Since each of the Turbo Arrow PA28's has a separate folder for custom viewpoints, try the Turbo Arrow IV... do you have the same problem with that aircraft?

@retiredman93231 Yes, problem in both aircraft, and only those. Deleting the cameras.cfg files did not help, so contacted JF support, they told me to do the same. Now my default view is under the aircraft, with the same issues as described above -- unable to reset/save default view. Complete reinstall several times (also deleted justflight files that the uninstall did not remove), but getting nowhere. It's my only JF product so far, so can't test if other JF aircraft are affected. But if it was a global sim problem, default aircraft should be affected. I'd say this should rest with support now, but thank you so much for your time and effort, much appreciated!

@skeptikantin One more thing I would recommend trying... Temporarily move everything in the Community folder except for this aircraft to another location, like a Temp folder on the Desktop, then see if the problem goes away... I have seen many strange interactions in MSFS from other mods, including liveries!

@retiredman93231 mhm, yes, good call, I know, that's the first thing I always do. Folder is empty... I have even removed the AFC bridge for my Honeycomb peripherals. I use Addons Linker, but since JF installer didn't give me a choice of where to install it to, the aircraft are in the community folder directly at the moment until I find out what's causing the issue.
-
@skeptikantin I know you said you have reinstalled the aircraft several times already... but, have you tried redownloading it as well? It's possible that the installation file could be corrupted. It's a long shot but it's worth a try anyway. You have definitely done the right thing to allow JF support also pursue the problem...

@retiredman93231 Mhm, I think I re-downloaded it in the process, but can't recall. But I did that now again anyway, thanks. No such luck. It was v0.5.3 when I purchased, and still is.

@retiredman93231 Turns out, in a slightly embarassing twist, that the horizontal position in the general options was wayyyy off. In my defense, and I think this speaks for the quality of the JF product, all other default aircraft seem to ignore this setting, which is why I never thought to look there first, as it never created an issue. Thank you again so much for your help, you taught me a lot.

@skeptikantin Excellent... I'm very happy you were able to resolve the problem!
