Importing Aircraft

Hello Derek,
How are the team getting on with issuing guidance on how we can add new liveries to existing TG AI models?
Cheers

I have just been looking at a site XPlane.org forum. There are dozens of repaint liveries available for free download for X plane users. I found with growing envy and frustration most of the liveries I would like to add that are missing from the P3Dv4 version of TG.
Derek on the 13th of May you said that you were looking into how P3D users could add repaints. That was over 6 weeks ago but nothing has been forthcoming. X plane users of TG now have a World of additional liveries avaiable to them but we don't. This is simply not fair or reasonable and its about time Just Flight did something about it!

X-Plane works differently to FSX and P3D. We are still on the case with importing into P3D. As soon as we have an update we will notify owners and release any patches required.

Does the procedure on page 16 of the manual not work for you? As far as I am aware, if you have a repaint for any of the TG aircraft you should be able to add it to the fleet without any problems.

Hi Rich,
We have been here before!
The procedure explained on page 16 of the manual does work for me but it only applies to liveries that already exist on the TG data base i.e. created by Just Flight. It does not explain how you can add third party created liveries. What is the process for doing that?
There is also a brief section called Importing Aircraft.
Its says "Should you wish to add a new aircraft to the TG fleet you will need to have a valid aircraft folder inside the TG folder". What is a valid aircraft folder?I have been searching the web for new 3rd party created liveries for TG P3Dv4 but haven't found any. Can you give me a source assuming such liveries exist.
Many thanks
Gary

The procedure is the same if you have downloaded the repaint from a third party. As long as the repaint has been added as a texture.whatever folder inside the relevant aircraft directory, it will show up in the list of available repaints when opening the Add Livery and you'll be able to configure it for use in TG.
Setting up a texture.x folder if it isn't downloaded in that format is outside of the remit of TG, but the manual links to an excellent guide on repainting at FSXInsider that covers everything. The Importing Aircraft feature is currently in flux so any information would shortly become redundant. The plan is to have an updated version of TG with a modified aircraft import option available next week.

A long time ago, in a galaxy not that far away when TG was first released as EA, (3 years ago now), there were paintkits available as a download from JF but I've yet to see anyone release a single repaint for the FSX/P3D version (and many more models have since been added).
Just for clarification, Rich, should any repaints ever become available in the future, is the procedure just to add the downloaded texture and TG will pick this up automatically?
It's just that adding third party liveries into FSX/P3D usually involves editing the relevant aircraft.cfg to include the texture as an additional [flightsim.n] section.
Good news though if the greyed out 'Import aircraft' tab is finally getting to have some function behind it.
The ability to expand available fleets would be a real bonus.
If we're talking adding non-TG models, what about adding the relevant flightplans, otherwise the resulting additional traffic would be pretty thin on the ground if users are limited to adding their own. -

It's just that adding third party liveries into FSX/P3D usually involves editing the relevant aircraft.cfg to include the texture as an additional [flightsim.n] section. At the moment, my plan is that all that would need to happen is for a texture.x folder to be added to an aircraft directory and then TG will handle setting up the aircraft.cfg and the various dats and cfgs used behind the scenes.

These days the traffic database includes all of the flight data (previously it was trimmed down to only list flights available within TG). Therefore as long as the livery is one that exists in real life you should find that TG will match it with its corresponding flight plans.

The last reply I had TG is final build now no updates in the pipeline just a manual possible.
I'll stand down then? :man_shrugging_light_skin_tone:

@Ray-Fry said in P3Dv5.2:looks like TG is a forgotten product. MSFS product`s more important.
It's a finished product. Currently looking into the manual description of how to add aircraft and, if we need to update that, we will. In the meantime, it is software designed to provide realistic AI traffic to the base game. It does that exceptionally well, as its popularity proves.
You seem to have forgotten all the times we remembered about it in the past - right up to this year! You can refresh your memory here:

As Rich says, no idea what point these posts are trying to make. I have said a couple of times we have not 'forgotten' this product. It was finished quite some time ago. We are currently looking into aircraft importing and will fix it if needs be or update the manual or both. Rich has confirmed that.

Hi Rich,
I, and I am sure many other users, are really looking forward to the update. Many thanks.

Hi Rich,
Any news on the update?
