A/P & Altitude/Trim
-
Anybody else finding it hard to trim?
I could trim the normally aspirated Arrow III to say 100 knots and it would climb nice and steady.
When I try to trim the turbo IV for 100 kts, the VS will keep rising causing the speed to drop then the VS plummets until it picks up speed again, back and forth no matter what I do.
Probably something I'm doing but I never had trouble before? -
Trim is still problematic and the altitude hold doesn't work in either HDG or NAV mode with AP engaged.

@CherokeeCruiser I had never had this problem until today. This current flight, I lost engine power and then I recovered but Alt hold wouldn't engage, and my usual workaround of the built-in AI copilot wouldn't hold altitude, either. I'm doing a lot of long legs so I can't really just start over easily without frustration. I currently am dancing with the trim at FL190, hoping I am able to keep an eye on it enough to not have to start over.

Altitude hold worked previously in the Arrow III with AP engaged but now doesn't, which suggests to me that could be a Just Flight issue rather than a sim issue: https://community.justflight.com/topic/2380/v0-7-0-altitude-hold

I performed a test flight of about 2 hrs. With regard to AP, the ALT hold was perfect. Trimming required a bit more attention to stabilize but ones stable remained stable. No engine performance and stability issues noticed. I leaned the mixture with altitude increase (12k ft). With full rich mixture it was not possible to climb to 12k ft without power losses.

The ONLY difference in the pitch sense of any of the Arrows is in the Turbo IV, where the elevator has been moved out of the propwash effect and shaped correctly for the IV. Other than that, both elevator and trim effects should be exactly the same as in the original Arrow III release, and while there may be some slight differences expected with the IVs behaviour, both IIIs should behave concistently and unchanged from the start.

@pvanderv I wonder what the trick is to get the ALT hold to work then. It was working for me when I first bought the Arrow III but when the last update came out and I also purchased the Turbo Arrow III/IV it no longer works in any of the Arrows. It is still the white button just below the control column isn't it? Off by default, push to engage?

@CherokeeCruiser NO!!!! That button turns on/off the electric pitch control that would be done off of the left handle yoke IRL. In the sim I think all it will do is disable the animation.
Its an invisible click spot as it doesn't really exist in the real plane, but added for convenience. Its just to the left, on the PIPER.

@weptburrito Oh thank you so much! Now I feel stupid.
