A look at day-to day operations of the 747 Classic

    Hi all,
    Like many on here, I'm extremely excited for the release of the 747 Classic, the classic for me has a charm that few other aircraft has and I can't wait to get my hands on it. In anticipation for the eventual release (Of course a well-polished aircraft is the most important thing, so no need to rush on JF's end), I thought I'd share one of my favourite Aviation documentaries.

    The documentary in Question is from 1990, a part of a BBC TV series entitled "Airline: Inside British Airways". This particular episode gives you a fascinating insight in BA's day-to-day operations of it's 747-200 fleet in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as well as containing some rather frank discussion about the modern day role of an Airline Pilot (some of which is admittedly rather dated, back in the day when the 747-400 was cutting-edge technology!).
    I personally find the documentary fascinating purely on being able to watch seasoned BA crews operate such a magnificent aircraft on one of BA's classic Long-Haul routes (BA9)

    I hope you all find it interesting, and I look forward to flying the 747 Classic when it releases!

      I too am looking forward very much to its release, and I've no doubt it will be just as superb a rendition as all the other JF aircraft in recent years, and will be well worth waiting for.

      And thanks for highlighting the video. I suspect I'm not the only one that lurks on here and who used to fly these Classic beauties for real, back in the day. In my case, for 25 years, man and boy, right seat then left seat. Now long retired, I now and again catch up with this episode, so as to remind myself just how fortunate I was to be able to fly these wonderful machines.

            I worked at Boeing my entire career and was in Commercial Flight test nearly the whole time. I was a system test engineer. We designed the installation of the test equipment required to gather test data required for certification of the aircraft. One of the planes I was assigned to was the first 747-200 built and was used for flight certification. It was N747200 I believe the first test flight was on April 15 1969, at least the first flight I was on, and it lasted for 4 Hours and 33 minutes. I subsequently flew 22 more flights. The last being on December 18 1969. During that time I accumulated 80 hours and 8 minutes.

            I was then moved over to the 747F RR201 where I had another 30 hours of flight time.

            For old time memories I just might have to get this plane when it is released.
