Future Capability: Airport Operations
-
I’ve just purchased Traffic Global after contemplating it for a while. My main reason for this was that I have an existing, popular traffic program for X-Plane and running Traffic Global I wonder the possibility of including the following future capabilities.
- Airport operations: a way to specify runway-in-use rules based on wind, time of day, type of aircraft
*Gate assignments: specify which airlines or aircraft can use which gates. Keep all airlines at their assigned real-world gates. - Support airport STAR and SID procedures.
The program is genius in how easy it is to setup and inject traffic. It would be great to add the increased realism level to really push to the next level.
Thanks for a cool product!

The Airport Operations part of your question is already all there, if the scenery designer wishes to include it. When an airport is done in WED(World Editor), the individual ramp starts can all be assigned certain aircraft size groups and airlines. ATC traffic flow rules should be done to include runway usage rules. I think this is now checked when a designer uploads to the scenery gateway. Obviously what rules a designer puts in place is down to them, but I always try and make the runways rules true to life from the briefing charts. If I fly into an airport and they are wrong I will change it for my own use, if it is a gateway airport I will upload a new version.

Would this cover the gates situation?
Never Steal Parking
If the only parking left at a given airport is reserved for a specific airline, and a different airline’s aircraft is unable
to park because no other parking is available, it will normally be parked in any available spot. If you prefer to
reduce the overall traffic levels in favour of having reserved parking used exclusively by the airline which owns it,
you can set that here. -
@Derek Thanks - I've enabled that as it would/should work and makes perfect sense. Keep the gate exclusive to the airlines as specified in the WED airport.dat file. I'm not exactly seeing that at KLAX - a MisterX6 airport. I opened the airport.dat file for this airport in WED and see that all gates have airline codes assigned to them. I have "Never Steal Parking" turned on but have SWA literally all over the airport. I'm wondering if Global Traffic is reading a different file? When I use World Traffic, with this same scenery, aircraft are at the proper gates as listed in the file.

Yes this can be checked to on to prevent aircraft populating already assigned gates, but if there are no other gates available I guess the traffic just wouldn't spawn.
I am nearing the completion of an updated Gatwick and I have basically done gate assignments according to the terminal usage, but there are many gates(West Park and off Taxiway S) where you can allow any airline to use. This is especially useful at night because you have the likes of EZY and BAW overnighting a lot of aircraft and all the gates, say for EZY at the North Terminal would be full, having 'Never Steal Parking' selected means the EZY won't try and steal gates at the South Terminal, but instead the gates in the West Park and off Taxiway S.

The main challenges I'm seeing now with just a few spot checks are:
KLAX (MisterX6)
-
Aircraft appear to not be adhering to the specified gate assignments in WED (SWA appearing at AAL only gates)
-
Aircraft landing opposite direction - I see a way to control this in WED but I'm not convinced Traffic Global is reading the Airport.dat file that I viewed
KDEN (X-Codr)
- Why do I have 4 British Airways A320s here? And parked at the Frontier gates?? They are coded FFT for Frontier only?
Other than that, KDEN seems pretty solid on gate assignments and airlines.

Do you have static aircraft turned off within the X-Plane graphics menu?

@SimChars1968 Yes, I have static aircraft turned off. BA aircraft do not appear with World Traffic, only in Traffic Global. If it may be an issue, I can submit a ticket. Id be interested to know where Traffic Global looks for the airport.dat file? There must be something going on there since that file controls gate assignments.

@SimChars1968 Yes, I'm seeing other aircraft in the correct gate locations as expected. I've submitted a ticket about a week ago. No reply just yet.
