Does the VNAV button do anything in the Velocity XL?
-
I searched the 1.2 manual for VNAV but there’s no mention of it. Last I checked the physical VNAV button didn’t activate VNAV, is there any change in the 1.2 update?

Also, the manual says to download and install the Working Title G3X mod, but that mod page now says the mod is deprecated and should not be installed with the latest MSFS update, as the standard G3X is better. Should the Velocity XL manual be changed to remove mention of the WT G3X mod?

@marionettework I suspect that button is just there for completeness and in case the G3X ever gets VNAV functionality introduce by WTT.

@tgp Does the real G3X support VNAV? I'm trying to understand where the limitation is and why there's a button, if it's because the real-life combination of these instruments doesn't support VNAV or because one of them doesn't support it in the sim.
I notice for example that if you go into the GTN 750 autopilot screen on the Velocity XL, it has no virtual VNAV button while the physical autopilot unit does.

Hi, the G3X in the sim does not support VNAV. As I said, I think they left the button on the AP in case the G3X in the sim adds VNAV functionality. The real life G3X does support coupled VNAV.

@tgp Ah, ok. Do you know if the G3X in MSFS is very limited compared to the real-life G3X, more so than say the G1000 or G3000? I've never used any of these in real life, to me the G3X seems like the most primitive of them call just looking at the graphics, I don't know if that's because it's the most basic system in real life, or because MSFS doesn't implement many of its features. Or maybe I'm not judging it accurately.

@marionettework It is not very faithfully modelled in the sim and Asobo/Working Title have said they have no plans to improve it, surprising considering the amount of planes that rely on it.
The G3X remains a capable irl unit poorly represented in the sim.
